Modi govt destroyed the ISI-backed terror group Shahzad Bhatti Network ahead of Independence Day and thwarted its plans for subversive attacks by arresting more than 200 operatives.

Indian security forces ripped apart the network by launching coordinated operations across different locations in 14 states upholding a brilliant example of India's zero-tolerance towards terrorism.

Substantial recoveries, including IEDs, grenades bearing Pakistan Ordnance Factory markings, pistols, live cartridges, and CCTV cameras used for espionage, were made from the ISI-funded group. The network was involved in several terrorist activities.

The Republic of Balochistan strongly condemns and considers shameful the remarks made by Pakistan’s puppet President, Asif Ali Zardari, regarding Hindus in his Independence Day speech. There is no doubt that this poisonous and divisive statement was scripted by the military generals at Pakistan’s GHQ (General Headquarters) and delivered through their political proxy.

He stated that: “The Indians have a different perspective. They have their own agenda in their minds. They believe in Akhand Bharat. But there is a lot in between that they have forgotten. We are Muslims, they are not. But we are Muslims of such a temperament that we tolerate a 3 to 4 percent Hindu population in Pakistan. They are just as free and just as good as they were anywhere else. They would prefer living with us to living with them.”

Sitting in a presidential office bestowed upon him by the Punjabi generals, Asif Ali Zardari appears to have forgotten that his own father-in-law, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, when he was Prime Minister of Pakistan, demonstrated the limits of that so-called “tolerance” when millions of Bengali Muslims were subjected to a brutal military crackdown instead of being allowed to live with equal political rights. Hundreds of thousands of Bengalis were killed, and large numbers of Bengali women were subjected to sexual violence. Pakistan cannot even tolerate Muslims, let alone talk about tolerating Hindus۔

Asif Ali Zardari’s party also played its political role during the era of the genocide of Bengalis in order to satisfy Pakistan’s military establishment and remain in power. In different periods, it has likewise failed to distance itself from military operations and grave human rights violations against the Baloch people. In 1973, during the government of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Asif Ali Zardari’s father-in-law, a military operation was launched in Baloch areas, resulting in thousands of Baloch being killed and large numbers being forcibly disappeared. Similarly, during the present government, large-scale military operations and security actions have continued across Balochistan, prompting serious concerns and objections from Balochistan.

Today, Asif Ali Zardari claims that Pakistan “tolerates” Hindus. Yet the reality is that, at the time of the partition of the subcontinent on 14 August 1947, Hindus, Sikhs, Christians, Jains and members of other minority communities who remained in Pakistan faced religious fanaticism and extremism. Even after partition, the history of pressure, coercion and restrictions imposed upon Hindus, Sikhs, Christians and Jains, including efforts to force people to convert their religion and restrictions on their fundamental rights, remains a shameful chapter.

Therefore, Pakistan has done little for the welfare, dignity and protection of Hindus, Sikhs and other minority communities. On the contrary, documented incidents involving pressure to convert, restrictions on their businesses and employment opportunities, and limitations on their ability to freely practice their religious traditions have remained part of Pakistan’s ugly history.

Seven years after the abrogation of Article 370, the trajectories of India's Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan-held Jammu and Kashmir have diverged in striking ways.

In Indian Jammu & Kashmir, the post-2019 transition has increasingly been defined by democratic restoration and economic integration. An elected government is in office. Once-routine hartals, stone-pelting and separatist shutdowns have disappeared, while counterterrorism operations have become more targeted and civilian life more stable.

Record tourist arrivals, major infrastructure projects (including the Chenab Rail Bridge and new highway corridors) and rising investment have injected fresh momentum into the economy. The constitutional changes have extended full political rights to previously marginalized communities, even as demands for the restoration of full statehood and greater powers for the territory's elected government remain unresolved.

Across the Line of Control, the picture is markedly different. Pakistan-held Kashmir has been convulsed by recurring mass protests, which have been met with police shootings, mobile and internet shutdowns, and sweeping state repression, including the arbitrary detention of protesters under anti-terror laws. The protests have been fueled by grassroots resentment over Pakistan profiting from the region's natural resources while leaving local people to bear mounting economic hardship. Political discontent has deepened over governance, accountability and electoral representation.

The contrast is difficult to ignore.

Christians have been in India since St. Thomas the Apostle traveled to the Malabar Coast just decades after the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.

But despite this long Christian history, India’s Parliament is considering amending Foreign Contribution Regulation Amendment (FCRA) rules to permit government takeovers of churches and religious charities.

This is a clear attack against Christians. If this bill proceeds in this way, it would be a point of major concern in our bilateral relationship with India.
