Research in Physical Review E combines experiments and game-theoretic modeling to extend behavioral game theory to tandem-running ants, showing how the ants exhibit behavior consistent with sampling equilibrium rather than the classical Nash equilibrium: https://t.co/Wj44eLccAO

Who will take the U-turn? Game theory explains how ants resolve traffic jams.
Our new study in Physical Review E shows how tandem-running ants resolve head-on encounters on narrow paths.

@I5hanimukherjee Thank you very much.
The structure of antennae and the distribution of sensilla may have evolved with their behaviour. Nevertheless, there is some research which shows flexibility in antennal movement while other sensory inputs are compromised.
@I5hanimukherjee But it could be assumed that as movement of antennae helps to integrate several environmental cues, thus behaviour like foraging or brood care might have been impacted by the restriction of antennal movement.
@I5hanimukherjee However, this study showed that the movement dynamics of exploratory walk of individual ants was unaffected by the restriction. But to the best of our knowledge there was no study that has addressed these questions.

Fantastic work by @CatherineMacri and coworkers showing that facets of consciousness once considered uniquely human may also occur in insects.
