Congrats to Dr Oliver Kearns on his graduation. His studies quantified how strength of corrugated steel culverts is influenced by shallow cover, or flooding that brings groundwater above the crown, or erosion of surrounding backfill - all of practical significance.
@shah_f1 Like I’ve done for yrs he has spaces through the exam for specific part answers - to locate efficiently when marking. However the Qs are listed at the end. Students detach the last pages and place those Qs beside the rest of the paper - there’s no searching during the exam.

It is great to be back in Washington at TRB after three years of absence. I’m catching up with lots of people including fellow Canadians Meckkey El Sharnouby and Kevin Williams of Atlantic Industries.
Russell Jackson has developed a rational design model for sprayed cementitious liners used in repair of deteriorated concrete sewer pipes, addressing four different states of deterioration (work jointly supervised with Aikaterini Genekomsou) https://t.co/jqy0tPHek2
@TheHubCanada This post makes disingenuous comments promoting 2 tier systems. Australia’s parallel private system has massive fees which medicos charge above the scheduled fee. As a young Prof with insurance, I struggled to pay those fees. Care costs more when you need to pay company profits.
I learned today of the passing of Dr Michael Maher - a wonderful research collaborator whose generous contributions of his time facilitated a number of large research projects with our @GeoEngCentre - @queens_civil team funded by @NSERC_CRSNG. https://t.co/TUglccc8Pc RIP mate!
Zahra Joneidi and Russell Jackson are working to instrument two concrete pipe culverts for testing in the West pit at Queen’s west campus. This is for experiments after these pipes are lined with Cured In Place Pipe liners.
@globeandmail The Enabling Act of 1933,(the 'Law to Remedy the Distress of People and Reich'), was a law that gave the German Cabinet and the Chancellor the powers to make and enforce laws without the involvement of the Reichstag. Sound familiar?
Congratulations to #queensu CRC @RKerryRowe who has won the inaugural @NSERC_CRSNG Donna Strickland Prize for Social Impact for research transforming waste containment facilities worldwide, impacting the health & wellbeing of millions ➡️ https://t.co/QHgYwiPcCx | #QueensuResearch
Congrats Ranlin Qiu for your great defence of your @queens_civil MASc on Tuesday (work on pressure pipe liners crossing metal pipe deterioration). Thanks fellow supervisor @hoult_neil, examiners @AbdelaalFady & @joshuaewoods and chair @BrachmanRichard.
Enjoy it while lasts. As a Lecturer in Oz I was offered the new first year package for years when I went to do my part in the annual enrolment process for undergrad students. It stopped years ago and for very good reasons it is not going to happen any more
It was wonderful to see Suzanne Lacasse recognized in this way for here extraordinary contributions to the theory and application of Geotechnique! Bravo Suzanne!
Dr Suzanne Lacasse (#FCAE#OrderofCanada) received an honorary doctorate from @queensu this week. Her words to our graduates were inspirational and included the advice to learn many languages so you can build bridges across cultures. Seen here with @QueensPrincipal @ianatcv
Wonderful celebrating with Rob Cichocki his graduation from @queens_civil with his PhD this afternoon. He richly deserves this - with excellent contributions to analysis & testing of polymer liners in corrugated steel pipes. Now if I could learn how to wear my PhD hood:-)
Congratulations to new Geo-Institute President Sissy Nikolaou of @NIST, whose term officially began Friday! Sissy will appear on Director's Cut THIS WEEK - get to know her better!
Hear hear! Both the leadership and individual contributions coming from women in our Society are superb, and is very encouraging regarding the present status and future of the CGS.
