Passionate about our environment and serious about our responsibility. Focused on Sustainable and Renewable Energy. Head of Commercial, Gas Networks Ireland
On hydrogen @GasNetIrl 's Edwina Nyhan says "We’re working to transform the gas network to transport Hydrogen", - Interconnector hydrogen at 100% possible from 2040 onwards

Cathal Marley, CEO of @GasNetIrl, emphasises that "green hydrogen is a long way off at scale", and insists: "Biomethane is here and now… If Denmark can do it, we can do it as well…," adding: "We have already injected biomethane into the national gas network."

Brian Ó Gallachóir, Director, @MaREIcentre, makes three key points:
1. We need to have a reduce energy demand.
2. We need to accelerate the energy transition.
3. "We really need to reopen some closed discussions around natural gas."

"Biomethane is being injected today with significant further potential @GasNetIrl 's Edwina Nyhan tells #EnergyIreland
Mitchelstown Central Grid Injection is the next step but policy supports are needed to enable Biomethane reach its full potential."
On Ireland having the greatest potential per capita to develop biomethane in the EU (but behind in terms of industry development) @GasNetIrl's CEO says "We now urgently need a clear policy, supports for industry and to revisit targets to align with RePowerEU ambitions
Edwina Nyhan outlines to delegates at the #EnergyIreland conference how the gas network is being transformed to carry hydrogen and biomethane and how an integrated energy system is essential to achieving net-zero 2050.
Discussing the role of gas in decarbonisation @EnergyIreland today, our CEO @cathalmarley1 said, 'Our gas network will continue to play an important role in decarbonising society. The reality is we need gas for security of supply and can't transition to renewables without it.'
@jamesagannon@energyireland @BrianLeddin @EamonRyan@ianof@SEAI_ie @Dept_ECC @eriucc@MaREIcentre@UCCResearch Here's some @MaREIcentre analysis did focusing on the key role of natural gas in ensuring electricity supply during cold and low wind periods in January of this year, and the challenges ahead this coming winter, due also to growth in data centres.
