@MikeAWheeler That ignores how the settlement is structured and requirements for its use. It could likely backfill some of the existing mental health cuts but it’s not just general fund dollars that are free to be used for anything in the budget.
As someone whose primary hobby is pizza, this take is always crazy to me! Like most cities, including those in Italy, DC has good pizza and bad pizza.
The best pizza I've ever had was in Barcelona. There's great pizza everywhere if you're willing to look for it!
The DMV’s best pizza is located at 1 Saarinen Circle.
Just walk inside the double doors, go down the stairs, up the escalator and onto a plane to Rome.
This aligns with the critiques of him in WaPo/The Atlantic. KMD, and to an extent his loudest supporters, aren't presenting a vision for the city so much as they're trying to convince voters that JLG will usher in the end times. I think voters deserve more from a closing message!
To this point, I am actually very interested to see what the closing arguments are. I think McDuffie has already started his: He says Lewis George will be bad for public safety and home rule. McDuffie's campaign has been hammering this the past few weeks.
The responses to this are insane. Our city has a rat problem, the next Mayor should have a plan to address that!
There's also no need to pretend like this is the first ever campaign stunt or that every public trashcan across all 8 wards of the city is in pristine condition.
@yemisi Martin's a great reporter but his tweet misses some of the context. Worth watching the whole clip but her immediate call isn't for a city-owned grocery store, it's a last resort.

A notable moment in the @wusa9 Ward 7 Dems mayoral debate:
Janeese Lewis George floated the idea of a publicly owned grocery store to address food deserts, saying if private options don’t come, “we will work towards that.”
FWIW her post referenced a unanimously passed bill that provided a slight uptick in the number of virtual learning seats available for students with certain health risks.
It's fine to have legitimate concerns about certain candidates, but this is just bad faith criticism.
Regardless of the candidate you're supporting in the DC mayor's race or any of the council races, if you're on hour 15 of reviewing and posting about a questionnaire, please step outside and enjoy the afternoon sunshine. The questionnaire will still be there when you get back.
@RoolieSmooth@Jar_a_Walker MPJ wakes up every day and forgets that his brother’s been banned for life and is facing like 5 years in prison for pulling this exact scheme
@RoolieSmooth@Jar_a_Walker League office rating Davis and Luka the same is wild. I know this trade has been talked about for two years but the idea that the Mavs just now all of sudden care about his conditioning or the supermax. Very fishy!
Nebraska volleyball coach John Cook has agreed to a new five-year extension.
After 24 years leading the Huskers, Cook will get a raise to $825,000, plus one special request:
Instead of an escalating salary, he'll get a $70K retention bonus to help buy a horse he's been eyeing.
