@VrankenKurt The explosion is enough to penetrate the top of the tank which is the weakest part of the tank. When the top of the tank is penetrated the ammo rack catches fire and explodes magnifying the damage done significantly. Around 80-90% total tank destructions are by ammo rack ignition

@Zafaron11 It is a shaped charge. Standard HEAT missiles point forward, but flyover-top-attack (FOTA) ATGM's have downward-facing shaped charges designed to trigger right over the tank’s thin roof armor
