Today, ICRISAT Director General Dr Himanshu Pathak (@HPathakOfficial) inaugurated the #MAHARISHI Mini Secretariat at #ICRISAT's Nairobi Office, Kenya, marking an important milestone in strengthening partnerships, knowledge exchange, and innovation across the Global South to accelerate millet research and innovation.
Launched under India's #G20 Presidency, MAHARISHI (the Millets and Other Ancient Grains International Research Initiative) serves as a global platform to advance research, innovation, and international partnerships on millets and other ancient grains for food security, nutrition, and climate-resilient agriculture.
Through this regional Mini Secretariat in Kenya, ICRISAT, in partnership with ICAR, will continue to strengthen South-South cooperation on millet research.

Telangana Agri-Input Dealers Training Program – Batch 6 | 8–9 June 2026
A two-day training program on soil health management for agri-input dealers from #Telangana was jointly conducted by ICRISAT and the Telangana State Agro Industries Development Corporation Limited at ICRISAT Headquarters on 8–9 June 2026. The training focused on soil health, bio-fertilizers, biochar, drone technology, farm mechanization, and integrated pest management for climate-resilient agriculture.
A high-level delegation from the National Rainfed Area Authority (@nraa_dac), New Delhi, visited the Tahrauli Landscape in #Jhansi on 6 June 2026 to assess the progress and impact of ICRISAT-led watershed and livelihood initiatives.
The delegation observed notable improvements in groundwater availability, cropping patterns, and cropping intensity, and visited community ponds, guava-based agri-horticulture systems, and traditional #haveli structures while interacting with local communities to witness the benefits of the integrated landscape approach.
The team also engaged with the Natural Resource Management Committee and the Progressive #Bundelkhand Farmer Producer Company, appreciating ICRISAT’s role in strengthening community participation, market linkages, and resilient rural livelihoods.
ICRISAT #Niger, in partnership with the Institut National de Recherche Agronomique du Niger (@inran_Niger) and the Alliance Bioversity-CIAT (@BiovIntCIAT_eng), hosted a national capacity-building workshop on the Multilateral System and Farmers’ Rights under the FAO International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (@planttreaty) from 3–6 June 2026.
The workshop brought together researchers, public institutions, NGOs, farmers’ groups, civil society organizations, and scientists from the national genebanks of Burkina Faso and Mali to strengthen capacity and collaboration on plant genetic resources across West and Central Africa.
Participants also visited ICRISAT’s regional genebank at the Sadore Research Station, recognizing its progress toward FAO standards and reaffirming their commitment to strengthening partnerships through the @CGIAR Genebank Accelerator.

Ms Felistas Mtenga, Land Resources Conservation Officer from the Department of Agriculture, #Malawi, shared her feedback from the training course on “Regenerative Agriculture for Climate Resilience and Sustainable Intensification of the Drylands.”
She emphasized the importance of regenerative agriculture in addressing climate change and improving farmers’ livelihoods, aligning with Malawi’s vision for sustainable agricultural development.
Telangana Agri-Input Dealers Training Program – Batch 5 | 4–5 June 2026
A two-day training program on soil health management for agri-input dealers from #Telangana was jointly conducted by ICRISAT and the Telangana State Agro Industries Development Corporation Limited at ICRISAT Headquarters on 4–5 June 2026.
Aligned with the #WorldEnvironmentDay2026 theme, "Our Planet, Our Future," the training highlighted the importance of responsible input use and soil stewardship in building resilient and sustainable dryland farming systems.
The program showcased practical solutions and technologies that support #soilhealth, sustainable agriculture, and climate-resilient farming.
ICRISAT participated in the National Workshop on “India’s Transition to Regenerative Agriculture: Policy, Partnerships, and Pathways” held in New Delhi on 2–3 June 2026, organized by The Nature Conservancy (@nature_org) and the Confederation of Indian Industry's Food and Agriculture Centre of Excellence (@cii_face).
Dr Dinesh Kumar Chauhan (@dkchauhan), Head – Agribusiness Innovation and Nutrition, ICRISAT, joined the session on Crop Diversification & Market Integration, sharing insights on strengthening value chains, promoting entrepreneurship, supporting farmer collectives, and creating market-led opportunities that make crop diversification economically viable for smallholder farmers.
Discussions highlighted the need to transition from water-intensive monocultures to diversified, climate-smart farming systems, including agroforestry, horticulture, millets, pulses, and oilseeds.
The session also emphasized stronger market linkages, value addition, private sector participation, enabling policies, and landscape-level approaches to build resilient agricultural systems and support year-round farmer incomes.
The ICRISAT Centre of Excellence for South-South Cooperation in Agriculture (ISSCA) is building a standing pool of professionals from the Global South who can be considered for upcoming #ISSCA capacity building initiatives.
These include in-person international training programmes, short-term courses, and workshops designed to enable the deployment and scaling of field-ready innovations across the Global South. Dr Shalander Kumar (@kumar_shalander), Principal Scientist – Transforming Agrifood Systems at ICRISAT, participated as a committee member in the 34th Meeting of the Research Advisory Committee of ICAR–Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture (@IcarCrida), held on 28–29 May 2026.
As a committee member, Dr Kumar contributed to ongoing discussions on dryland agriculture and shared insights from ICRISAT’s global experience across diverse regions.
The meeting provided a valuable platform for knowledge exchange and reaffirmed the strong partnership between ICRISAT and the National Agricultural Research System (NARS), advancing resilient, productive, and prosperous dryland farming systems.
ICRISAT, in collaboration with the Legal Affairs Office of the @CGIAR System Organization, hosted a webinar on “Evolving Partnership Approaches to Advance Innovation and Impact” on 20 May 2026.
The webinar explored emerging partnership models and discussed how CGIAR Centers can strengthen engagement with public and private sector stakeholders in response to evolving funding landscapes. ICRISAT shared insights on its partnership ecosystem, including the #ISSCA platform for South–South cooperation and the #CATALYST initiative for corporate engagement, while showcasing avenues for knowledge exchange and capacity building across CGIAR and beyond.

The program strengthened participants’ knowledge of irrigation management, aerobic composting, biochar production, drone-based fertilizer and pesticide application, farm mechanization, integrated pest management, beneficial insects, soil sampling techniques, and science-based advisory services.

ISSCA marked its first anniversary yesterday with a global virtual event, “Transforming Agriculture Together: Learnings from the Global South,” bringing together policymakers, scientists, development partners, and practitioners from across the Global South.
Dr PS Birthal, Distinguished Fellow at RIS, and Dr Simon Heck, Director General of CIP, congratulated ISSCA on its successful first year and commended the team for advancing South–South cooperation in agriculture.
ICRISAT Director General Dr Himanshu Pathak, Deputy Director General–Research and Innovation Dr. Stanford Blade, Additional Director General Mr Sanjay Agarwal, and ISSCA coordinator Dr Suryamani Tripathi highlighted ISSCA’s achievements over the past year and outlined its vision for expanding partnerships, capacity development, and agricultural innovation across the Global South.
The event featured a panel discussion moderated by Dr Padmaja Ravula, “From Knowledge to Impact: ITEC Alumni Reflections and the Way Forward,” with distinguished alumni and experts from Brazil, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Zambia, Malawi, and Malaysia, who shared insights on translating capacity development into tangible agricultural impact.
