One of the best things about Dark Sun was when it was first released, it wasn't even safe.
It was wild and savage and Tolkien would have seen us all as blasphemous for playing it and we loved it.
Our campaigns were Conan without the luxury of rain and snow, they were run as Red Sonja with less clothes, It was Imaro with more brutality.
We were bloody little heathens and we loved it.
Not only did Tom Moldvay give us the superior Basic D&D game, he also turned his genius towards AD&D.
Want to enjoy AD&D without all the guff?
Seek out The Challenges Game System- Moldvayโs 8-page restatement of the rules- the way itโs supposed to be played.
Another find from under the stairs. A map from 1985 drawn by my first DM when he was 13. Every town, village and city was populated and had its own rulers industry and religion. The amount of work put into this is amazing. All those hours in study hall paid off! Someday Iโd like to compile everything he did and put it up as a free release.
