How do you implement payment?

And how well can you answer questions about payment during an interview?

In our Product Design and Engineering Bootcamp,
Here is everything we actually covered for payments

📍Money storage
Amounts stored as whole numbers in minor units, currency stored beside them.
₦50,000 lives in the database as 5,000,000 kobo.

Decimals cause rounding errors. Rounding errors in money become disputes.

📍The lifecycle is three stages, not one
Initiation. Verification. Fulfilment.
Access is granted only after our server confirms with the provider.

Granting on the redirect means anyone who types your success URL gets a free subscription.

📍The payment log
A table where every event is its own timestamped row: initiated, verified, fulfilled, failed.
Rows are added, never edited.

Your subscription table shows the present. The log is the history you produce in a dispute.

📍Webhooks
A webhook is the message the provider sends your server when something happens.
Verify the signature before processing anything.

Then idempotency: same event, processed once, keyed on the provider reference. Providers resend. Your database should not care.

📍Subscriptions
Proration on a mid cycle change, calculated to the day.
Cancellation keeps access to the end of the paid period. Confirm before cancelling. Ask the reason after.

Label downgrades honestly. No dark patterns.

📍Compliance and abuse
No card details stored anywhere, which keeps us out of PCI DSS scope.
Rate limiting on checkout initiation.

And we covered agentic payment protocols: AP2, ACP, x402, Stripe's MPP.

📍We broke our own app
A user on an active yearly plan could pay yearly again and the expiry never moved.
Money taken. Nothing delivered.

That bug is how we taught reconciliation and proration.

📍Then we interrogated them
"Show me the exact line where access is granted. What if I reach it directly from my browser?"
"Proration for an upgrade on day 12 of a 30 day cycle."
"I pay yearly twice in one minute. What does your database look like?"

That is the difference between vibe coding a payment and implementing one.

Our students can explain payment in an interview because they built it, broke it, and proved it in the database.

- Read Philosophy

- Eat differently. Have a habit around food like "don't ever eat outside". "Don't eat meat foods in front of anyone" etc

- Listen to deep elitist music. It's sounds like Jazz, Rap like The roots, Soul like Emeli Sande and Jay Electronica, bands like Cigarettes after sex and War on drugs, performances like Ludwig's, etc

- Always wear a smile with a smirk at once. Know who you give a handshake to and who you take a handshake from. Keep discussions short etc

- Do exercise. More importantly, do things that drill discipline like Yoga, beans counting, etc

- Make money with the focus your have built

- Wear only cotton, or light drapes. Don't ever wear polyester.

- Use punchy and breezy perfumes

But cement sales actually fell from 27.7 million tons to 27.5 million.

That’s monopoly pricing.

And Nigeria is letting this crime scene continue.
