Responding to the arbitrary detention of members of former prime minister Imran Khan’s family, including his three sisters, as well as activists from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ahead of the party’s planned protests and march on 27 September:

“The targeting of Imran Khan’s family and PTI party activists is a flagrant violation of their rights to liberty, freedom of expression, association and peaceful assembly. Such actions speak to the severity of the current restrictions in Pakistan.

“The pre-emptive arrests of PTI members come ahead of planned country-wide protests by the party on 27 September, which government officials have openly vowed to stop. Roadblocks are already being erected in Islamabad. These developments do not bode well, especially given the authorities’ long track record of reckless and unlawful use of force against protesters. A protest cannot be deemed violent before it has even started. Pakistan’s authorities must uphold their obligations under international human rights law to facilitate peaceful assembly and refrain from unlawful measures to thwart these protests."

Important Message from Former Prime Minister Imran Khan from Adiala Jail - 22 July 2025

“Never in the history of Pakistan has any political leader been subjected to the treatment that I am currently enduring. Nawaz Sharif committed corruption worth billions and was nevertheless granted every possible comfort in prison. In contrast, never before has the innocent and apolitical spouse of a political figure been imprisoned under such inhumane conditions as those imposed upon Bushra Bibi.

I am enduring the harshest prison term in the country’s history solely for the supremacy of the Constitution and in service of my nation. The level of oppression and authoritarianism is such that even the water I have for ablution is filthy and contaminated with dirt, unfit for any human being. Books sent to me by my family have been withheld for months. Access to television and newspapers has also been suspended. I have spent countless hours re-reading the same old books, but now even those are no longer available.

All my basic human rights have been violated. Even the minimum facilities accorded to ordinary prisoners under the law and the jail manual are denied to me. Despite repeated requests, I have not been allowed to speak to my children. Political meetings have also been restricted; I am only permitted to meet certain ‘choice individuals’, while all other interactions are barred.

I am waging a battle against a 78-year-old system, and my greatest success is that despite unprecedented oppression, the public stands firmly with me.

On February 8th (2024), the people expressed their trust in Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf by voting for you even in the absence of an electoral symbol. After such a clear mandate, it is the moral and political responsibility of every party member to become the voice of the people. It will be nothing short of disgraceful and condemnable if PTI leaders waste time on internal conflicts at this critical juncture. Anyone found engaging in factionalism within the party will be expelled. I am fighting for the future of our generations, and every sacrifice I make is for that cause. To create rifts within the party at this time would be a direct betrayal of my mission and vision.

The so-called government formed through Form 47 has crippled the judiciary through the 26th Constitutional Amendment. The way biased judges are now delivering blatantly unjust verdicts under these courts is visible to the entire nation. We must launch a robust campaign to liberate the judiciary, for no nation can survive, let alone progress, without judicial independence.”

There is no limit to their cruelty. Complete disregard for humanity.

This is a disgrace.

Now my Aunts Dr. Uzma and Noureen, along with my cousins Shershah and Shahrez have now been abducted as well.

They have broken into my aunties and cousins houses and forced them
into vehicles with no explanation.

No reasons for arrest have been stated.

No news has been released as to where they have been taken.

This is criminal behaviour. Inexcusable. The Pakistani people are petrified of their own leaders.

No upstanding nation should tolerate this criminal establishment. Intervention is now imperative.

میں ساری نون لیگ کو ایک کھلا سیاسی چیلنج دیتا ہوں۔

پنجاب کے کسی بھی شہر کا انتخاب نون لیگ خود کرے، جبکہ تحریک انصاف کے لیے بھی وہ اپنی مرضی کا کوئی بھی شہر منتخب کر لے۔ دن، تاریخ اور وقت بھی نون لیگ خود طے کرے۔ شرط صرف یہ ہے کہ دونوں جماعتوں کو مکمل اور یکساں لیول پلیئنگ فیلڈ دی جائے۔

اگر نون لیگ کا جلسہ عوامی شرکت کے اعتبار سے PTI کے جلسے سے بڑا ثابت ہوا تو میں سیاست چھوڑنے کے لیے تیار ہوں۔ لیکن اگر PTI کا جلسہ بڑا ہوا تو مسلم لیگ (ن) کو پنجاب کے عوام کے سامنے اپنے عوامی مینڈیٹ سے متعلق اٹھنے والے سوالات، سیاسی کارکنوں پر ظلم و جبر اور اپنی طرزِ حکمرانی اور بدترین کارکردگی پر جواب دینا ہوگا، اور عوام سے معذرت کرکے اپنی سیاسی حکمتِ عملی اور لیڈرشپ پر نظرثانی کرنی ہوگی۔

میں یہ چیلنج ایک بار پھر پوری وضاحت کے ساتھ پیش کر رہا ہوں۔ اگر مسلم لیگ (ن) کو اپنی کارکردگی اور پنجاب کے عوام کی حمایت پر یقین ہے تو اسے یہ چیلنج قبول کرنے میں کوئی ہچکچاہٹ نہیں ہونی چاہیے۔

میرا مؤقف ہے کہ مسلم لیگ (ن) کے لیے سب سے بڑا سیاسی امتحان خود مریم نواز کی ناجائز مینڈیٹ کے ذریعے مسلط کی گئی حکومت کی کارکردگی ہے۔ اگر انہیں اپنی ناجائز حکومت کی کارکردگی اور عوامی مقبولیت پر اعتماد ہے تو آئیں، میدان میں آ کر عوام کی طاقت کا فیصلہ ہونے دیں۔

اب فیصلہ دعووں، سرکاری اعداد و شمار یا میڈیا بیانات سے نہیں، بلکہ عوام کی موجودگی اور عوامی ردِعمل سے ہونے دیں۔

چیلنج سامنے ہے۔
فیصلہ پنجاب کے عوام کریں گے جیسے انہوں نے 8 فروری کے دن تحریک انصاف کو دو تہائی اکثریت دے کر کیا تھا !!

“We have knocked on every door, but no one has listened. I had asked for dialogue only once, and that too was conditional upon commissions to investigate the events of November 26th (2024) and May 9th (2023) being formed. It was Asim Munir who ordered the shooting of unarmed civilians on November 26th. I reiterate there is no longer any room for dialogue because this group has completely hijacked the entire system.

I have instructed Barrister Gohar, Salman Akram Raja, Ali Amin Gandapur, and Junaid Akbar to ensure the protest movement runs with full force. The objective of this movement must be the restoration of justice, the supremacy of law, and the protection of the Constitution. If we fail to raise our voices in the streets, this group of oppressors will gradually finish off our parliamentary party as well. I am standing firm; all of you must also stand firm.

Eighty percent of the people of Pakistan stand with me and we are entitled to fight for our rights. I am aware that 90% of the electoral fraud took place between polling and the compilation of results. I campaigned for the implementation of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) for two years. If EVMs had been used on February 8th (2024), the game would have ended there and then. I still say today: if transparent elections are desired, EVMs must be introduced, and rigging will end once and for all.”
