The claim from @JavierNegre10 on @Bannons_WarRoom, that María Corina Machado "has a socialist past, is surrounded by Democratic lobbyists and socialists, and that kind of thing doesn't go over well here" does not hold up under scrutiny. Here's a clear fact-check based on her well-documented background.
No Socialist Past. María Corina Machado has been a consistent and vocal opponent of socialism throughout her political career. She is a fierce anti-Chavista figure who has repeatedly called for "burying socialism forever" in Venezuela.
Her family’s steel companies (like Sivensa) were expropriated under Hugo Chávez’s socialist nationalization program, which she has criticized sharply.
She founded and leads Vente Venezuela, a center-right liberal party (often described as classical liberal or pro-free market). She advocates for privatization (including of PDVSA, the state oil company), "popular capitalism," and economic freedom, positions that are the opposite of socialist ideology.
She began her activism in 2002 by co-founding Súmate, a group promoting electoral transparency against Chávez’s consolidation of power. Sources across the spectrum (Wikipedia, Nobel Prize bio, Reason magazine, etc.) describe her as a pro-democracy, anti-socialist leader who has fought the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) for decades. There is no credible evidence of any socialist affiliation or "past" in her record, quite the contrary.
No Evidence of Being "Surrounded by Democratic Lobbyists and Socialists". There are no reliable reports or sources indicating that Machado is surrounded by Democratic (U.S. party) lobbyists or socialists. Her alliances have been with pro-democracy opposition figures, liberal international networks (e.g., RELIAL and Liberal International), and recently, strong outreach to Trump and Republicans (she even dedicated her 2025 Nobel Peace Prize to Trump and sought his support).
She has been criticized by some on the far left as too right-wing or aligned with "transnational capital" and the global right. Claims of Democratic ties appear unsubstantiated and may stem from political smears or confusion with broader U.S. opposition support in past years (which was bipartisan under multiple administrations).
Context of the Trump Meeting. The meeting between Trump and Machado at the White House (which took place on January 15, 2026) was low-profile, with Trump expressing reservations about her level of support in Venezuela and preferring to work pragmatically with figures like interim leader Delcy Rodríguez. However, this reflects current geopolitical pragmatism post-Maduro's ouster, not any "socialist" associations on her part.
In short, the statement seems to be a misrepresentation or smear. Machado is widely recognized (including by her Nobel Peace Prize for promoting democracy) as a staunch anti-socialist, pro-freedom, center-right opposition leader. If you're replying on X, you could say something like:"@JavierNegre10
Fact-check: María Corina Machado has NO socialist past , she's spent decades fighting Chavismo/Socialism, wants to 'bury it forever," and pushes free-market reforms. No evidence she's 'surrounded' by Dem lobbyists or socialists either. She's a center-right liberal opponent of the regime."
@SecRubio Sir, We need new to install a combat support hospital, preferably on the east side of la guaira where are the majority of the victims located, there is a golf course which has a huge open field where rotary wing operations can be performed. And more importantly, we need coordinated operations and actions, there is a lot of people who are still buried under the rubble including one of my daughters and her boyfriend
Just heard from a very good friend of mine that lives just outside of Caracas.
He says the situation is desperate and they need help on an international scale.
If this reaches anyone that can make a difference please help.
@WhiteHouse La Guaira got the worst part. A lot of people are buried under the rubble including my youngest daughter Maria Fernanda. She’s been there for 24 hours. Please, pray for us 🙏🏻
@EricLDaugh This is on a small scale what TDS could do if it gains control of power in most of the 🇺🇸. You better believe it: leftists are capable of destroying everything in the name of equality and inclusion (a.k.a. socialism).
