You are not alone. With warmth and tenderness, the long arm of the Government will embrace and support you.

Despite widows forming a prominent proportion of our country's population, this nearly invisible and often stigmatized group has been left out in many past policymaking initiatives.

Susceptible to social injustices, especially among the rural population, these vulnerable women have endured the brunt of culture expressed through discrimination, disinheritance and destitution.

As a way of amplifying their voices and creating an equitable environment for their socio-economic growth, there has been a rapid rise in the number of Government initiatives, Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) and National NGOs that work with widows across the country.

Today, on the occasion of the 2023 International Widows' Day, it is my plea that we hold hands and work together to dignify the lives of these women.

The United States of America (USA) has been a strategic and enduring partner in our development journey.

Today, at the US Department of State, Washington DC, we held a Bilateral Strategic Dialogue (BSD) between Kenya and the USA co-chaired by CS Foreign & Diaspora Affairs, @DrAlfredMutua and Secretary of State, @SecBlinken.

The deliberations were anchored on issues of mutual interest between the two countries, with focus on the five pillars of the Strategic Partnership Framework signed in 2018, namely; Economic Prosperity; Health cooperation; Multi-lateral/Regional issues; Defence cooperation; and Democracy, Governance and civilian security.
