βThe closure of the Inter Faith Network has resulted in the transfer of responsibility for Inter Faith Week 2024 to a group of inter-faith organisations. Together we will ensure that the Week continues, as a focus of interfaith activties that bring together diverse communities.β
WITHDRAWAL OF OFFER OF GOVERNMENT FUNDING
TheΒ Co-Chairs of @IFNetUK have today received a letter from Secretary of State Rt Hon Michael Gove MP saying that funding offered, subject to conditions, to IFN in July 2023 for the period until March 2024 would not be provided. The reasons are foreshadowed in his earlier letter of 19 January to them and relate to the inclusion on IFN's Board of a Trustee who is a member of the Muslim Council of Britain. IFN's Board meets tomorrow and a statement will be issued in due course.
Including presentations on βInter Faith Week as a platform for encouraging religious literacyβ, with presentations from Jay Anderson, @leedsfaithforum and @ERosen62 of @BMFForum
LIKELY IMMINENT CLOSURE OF @IFNetUK
The Board of the Inter Faith Network for the UK has, with great regret, taken an in principle decision to move towards closure of the organisation due to lack of funding. That closure will be confirmed, on 22 February unless by that time the Β£155,000 funding offered by the Government on 7 July 2023 for work from July 2023 to March 2024 is finally made available or other equivalent funds received. Two weeks remain to try and bring a resolution to this issue and enable IFN's work for #interfaith understanding and cooperation to continue.

We continue to receive reports from organisations which took part in #InterFaithWeek and used it to help others and to strengthen #interfaith understanding and cooperation. Here's one from @CCJUK - CCJ by Dilara Eren - CCJ #Campus Leadership Programme 2023-24 published in CCJ's newsletter today.
"During inter faith week, many societies collaborated together to create an interfaith panel event with a wide range of speakers. We started off with set questions and then opened it up to the floor. Everyone was really in tune and engaged, listening with real curiosity. The answers each speaker gave sparked more questions, which we could see on the mentimeter that so many people submitted questions!
It was nice to learn about the core beliefs of each faith, and see how each speaker represented their faith differently e.g. through their experiences, texts, outfits etc. Overall I really enjoyed being a part of the panel as it showed unity and respect between the different faiths, and encouraged discussions during the breaks too where people were actively approaching others and asking questions!"
INTER FAITH WEEK PROJECT STORIES
We continue to receive reports from organisations which took part in #InterFaithWeek and used it to help others and to strengthen #interfaith understanding and cooperation. Here's one from @emmanuel_house_, #Nottingham, that's just come in!
"Inter Faith Week celebrates connections and understanding between #religious and #faith groups, focusing on shared learning and collaboration to help the local community.
As Emmanuel House is a charity founded in faith, we thought it would be appropriate to get in touch with other faith-based groups that offer support, and band together during the week to provide food for those who are facing #homelessness .
#SalaamShalom, a local #Muslim and #Jewish kitchen group [see photos] did a cooking session in the kitchen at Emmanuel House, serving a wonderful lasagne and garlic bread, and Sanatan Community Service, a #Hindu group which runs a #foodbank, cooked a delicious vegetarian curry at the Winter Shelter. We also made connections with @GuruMisssion, a #Sikh street outreach group and hope to collaborate with them in the future.
All three groups have expressed a desire to work on regular food projects, throughout the year, with Emmanuel House and the Winter Night Shelter.

Thank you in advance for your kind support.
If you follow @IFWeek you might also be interested to follow our main account, @IFNetUK, for year-round #interfaith stories, including items such as this one about #faith communities and reciprocal greetings and visits and times of #faith#festivals.
#Faith communities responding to invitations to events linked to each other's #festivals and exchanging greetings at times of festivals is increasingly common. This year, for example, saw @SikhMessenger and @BoardofDeputies extending #Easter greetings to Christians on @X; @JustinWelby extending #Diwali greetings by video; and guests of different faiths at #Chanukah lightings in areas such as Leeds and Plymouth and participating in Ramadan #iftars such as an #interfaith #iftar in Leicester. The coming days will see traditional exchanges of greetings at the time of Christmas. More about faith festivals at https://t.co/PjzS5GqaLV

@IFNetUK: working since 1987 towards a society where there is understanding of the diversity and richness of the #faith communities in the UK and the contribution that they make; and where we live and work together with mutual respect and shared commitment to the common good.
#InterFaithWeek is @IFNetUK's largest programme, helping ever more people get involved in learning about different faiths and beliefs; making new connections; and volunteering together. IFN intern Louisa Hadari helped support the recent 2023 Week. Here, she talks about her experience: https://t.co/W71FQTN8B8 Find out more about the wider work of @IFNetUK at https://t.co/6sHbfiJVXS.
