The Randle cycle has people terrified of fat
They think one plate of potatoes with butter will wreck their metabolism instantly
It won't, because it's dose-dependent
A little fat with a high-carb meal doesn't do anything meaningful. I'd even say moderate fat + high carb is still fine
What matters is your daily totals, not each individual meal
If you keep daily fat in your target range and spread it out reasonably, you don't need to obsess over every plate being "perfect" and "optimal"
One meal won't wreck your metabolic rate, and it definitely won't magically make you fat
What screws your metabolic rate is stacking big amounts of fat AND carbs in the same meals, day after day after day after day...
That's what slowly grinds down your insulin sensitivity and oxidative metabolism
But moderate fat in each meal is NOT going to do this. Quite the opposite, it gives your body more time to digest food and helps you absorb fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K)
Stop fearing the butter and the cheese
