The response to the reality that Trump is probably going to win doesn't seem to be "We need to unite to stop him!" but rather a spitefully gleeful anticipation of all the blaming and scapegoating and finger-pointing we'll get to do afterward. Finally, we can tear into each other!
At the end of the day the Republicans' big advantage is that the various factions of the left hate each other much, much, much, much more than they hate Trump. I guess it's just the nature of the coalition but most of the venom is turned inward. It's just hard to win that way.
