To protect the data generated by Uganda's 41 million mobile subscriptions, Ignatius Balayo from @BusitemaUni presented his research proposal, "Privacy Preservation in Mobile Networks Using Machine Learning". His project addresses the vulnerabilities of traditional AI systems, which require sending sensitive data to centralized or offshore servers, by introducing an innovative, decentralized framework. By utilizing Federated Learning and Differential Privacy, the system allows AI models to learn directly on devices without raw data ever leaving them.
Funded under the UCC framework, this initiative secures personal user details, directly aligns with Uganda's Data Protection and Privacy Act (2019), and establishes the foundational cybersecurity infrastructure needed for the country's transition to secure 5G and 6G technologies.

If I had a story to tell, it would be a story of my community.
I’m privileged to lead initiatives focused on closing the AI knowledge gap in our communities - “AI for All”.
Through targeted training and collaboration, our initiative aims to empower individuals and institutions to harness AI for education and innovation, ultimately building technologies that address African challenges and improve livelihoods.
What a joy to share the Christmas Cantata with our city!

For a psychology course at the University Oklahoma, Samantha Fulnecky was asked to write a 650-word essay reacting to an article about how people are perceived based on societal expectations of gender.
In her essay, Fulnecky argued that traditional gender roles should not be considered stereotypes. She cited the Bible to support her stance that eliminating gender in society would be "detrimental" because that would put people "farther from God's original plan for humans."
She received zero points out of 25 on the essay. Transgender professor, Mel Curtis, said Ms. Fulnecky, failed to use empirical evidence/and called parts of her essay offensive.
"To call an entire group of people 'demonic' is highly offensive, especially a minoritized population," the instructor wrote in the online grading platform.
Fulnecky says she followed the assignment guidelines and should not be penalized for her religious viewpoints. OU officials point to the formal grade-appeal process as the student awaits a decision.
We at Turning Point OU stand with Samantha. We should not be letting mentally ill professors around students.
Clearly this professor lacks the intellectual maturity to set her own bias aside and take grading seriously. Professors like this are the very reason conservatives can't voice their beliefs in the classroom. Kuddos to Samantha for leading by example and standing up for what she believes in. @UofOklahoma , do better!

Honored to represent @BusitemaUni in a pivotal academic exchange at Ningxia University, China. We are actively engaging in learning AI and mastering innovative education.
The short-term program was designed to cover courses in Machine Learning, Cyber Security, IoT Application Cases, DeepSeek, Chinese language, and vocational skills, along with industry visits.
It has been an amazing experience traveling with such an energetic team. I look forward to seeing more staff and students from the Busitema University benefit from this great initiative.
I sincerely thank the leaders of both institutions for making this possible!
My team is concluding a 14-day visit to China under a collaboration between Busitema University and Ningxia Vocational and Technical University, which I am honored to lead. Students from Artificial Intelligence, Computer Engineering, Water Resource Engineering, and Cyber-Physical Systems are part of this first cohort.
