Recovery isn't guaranteed.
Some wildlife populations are rebounding, but others including elephants, lions, leopards, and ostriches remain under pressure. Protecting Uganda's biodiversity requires sustained conservation.
#WildlifeCrimeUG#ProtectWildlife#ConservationMatters
🐘 Elephants are the most reported species in Uganda's human-wildlife conflict cases.
Protecting wildlife means protecting livelihoods too. Effective conservation must create space for both communities and wildlife to thrive.
#WildlifeCrimeUG#HumanWildlifeConflict
Conservation is about people and wildlife thriving together.
Nearly 89% of Uganda's human-wildlife conflict cases involve crop damage. Protecting livelihoods helps build community support for conservation and reduces pressure on wildlife.

Wildlife conservation is not only about protecting animals; it's about supporting people too.
1,809 community wildlife scouts trained. 1,014 households compensated.
Strong communities are key to fighting wildlife crime and protecting Uganda's biodiversity.

RECSA is participating in the Training of Trainers (ToT) Capacity-Building Programme on small arms and light weapons (SALW) for the African Great Lakes region, with representatives from five RECSA Member States: Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda.
The training, which is currently underway in Beijing at the People’s Public Security University of China, brings together 21 participants from the five RECSA Member States, who are also members of the Contact and Coordination Group (CCG).
It is our privilege to work alongside representatives from @UN_Disarmament , @un_greatlakes and the @AUC_PAPS in this noble cause.
This capacity-building programme is funded by the UN Peace and Development Fund (UNPDF) under the project “Reducing the Human Cost of Weapons in Africa through Policy Support, Capacity-Building, Security Cooperation, and Technical Assistance in Weapons and Ammunition Management in DDR Contexts.”
The ongoing programme seeks to enhance the technical expertise of CCG members in weapons and ammunition management and to support the African Union’s Silencing the Guns initiative.

Uganda's wildlife is a national treasure, with over 18,000 species of flora and fauna and 1,000+ bird species.
Yet #wildlife#trafficking and #smuggling continue to threaten this biodiversity.

UPDATE: Ugandan authorities have arrested a suspected transnational criminal, a resident of Gasiza Parish, Nyakabande Sub-county in Kisoro District, along with two Nigerian nationals. The arrests followed an Interpol alert and public tip-offs about suspicious behaviour. Ministry of Internal Affairs spokesperson Simon Peter Mundeyi confirmed the intelligence-led operation, saying investigators are examining possible links to serious offences, including drug trafficking. Security agencies recovered a firearm and military gear during the operation.

A significant step forward in Uganda’s conservation efforts.
Yesterday, the Uganda Wildlife Authority unveiled the Uganda Wildlife Forensics Laboratory at Uganda Wildlife Education Centre.
Established through a partnership with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and support from TRACE Wildlife Forensics Network.
The facility is set to enhance scientific investigations. Strengthening the detection, prosecution, and deterrence of wildlife crimes.
A powerful addition to Uganda’s efforts in safeguarding its biodiversity and reinforcing conservation enforcement.

Habitat loss is a silent threat. With Uganda's human population growing, lion migration corridors have been blocked. Our strategic plan focuses on restoring these key habitats and securing open landscapes so our lions have the space they need to roam and breed. #HumanWildlifeConflict
As conversations on stronger regional responses grow, now is the time to pay attention.
