You can identify any number of dysfunctions and abuses in policing but most of it comes down to one thing: Money. The police have secured enormous municipal budgets, and instead of becoming a tool of last resort, they are the first responders to nearly every social ill.

It’s always clarifying to witness the manifestation of racist double standards out in the open. The way White protestors screamed in the faces of police and were largely left alone, the way people protesting a murdered Black man were tear gassed and shot with rubber bullets.
