SEBI May Bring Back Old Way to Settle Expiry
SEBI is thinking of going back to the old VWAP method or a mix of VWAP and closing auction to settle weekly and monthly derivatives. The new closing auction started last month has very low participation and is creating extra swings between Nifty and Sensex on expiry days. A consultation paper may come this week and the board could decide on 24 September.

Our only polite and constructive request to @SEBI_India and the exchanges:
Please delink weekly expiry contracts from the Closing Auction Session (CAS) and allow them to expire at 3:15 PM, as was the established practice.
We are not against CAS.
Our concern is simply that weekly expiry contracts being linked to CAS can create unintended distortions and uncertainty during the crucial final minutes of trading.
Allowing weekly expiries to conclude at 3:15 PM can:
• Reduce unintended price distortions
• Improve market predictability
• Ensure smoother expiry-day functioning
• Provide greater clarity and certainty for retail participants
This is a simple, practical and constructive solution that can help make the transition smoother without compromising the broader objective of CAS.
We request SEBI and the exchanges to hear the concerns of market participants and consider this adjustment.

@shamikv@SEBI_India@SEBI_updates Exactly Sir. It’s our money, and we are responsible for managing it. The real question is whether those making these decisions truly understand the problems common traders face. That disconnect is the concern.
Dear SEBI Chief, @SEBI_India@SEBI_updates
I really want to ask you one question: Do you really think this is real price discovery? And do you really think that after introducing CAS, the issue has been resolved?
Let me answer this: No.
You are not getting the price discovery you intended, and CAS has not been implemented in the way you originally envisioned.
Sir, the capital market is not about ego. The more you continue with a decision that is hurting market participants, the more retailers will suffer because of what I believe is a fundamentally flawed decision.
I know you visited other exchanges where CAS is also being used, but you are forgetting one important thing: the structure of our market is different. Our market structure, liquidity, participation and derivatives volumes are not the same as those markets.
And let me make one thing clear: you don’t need to worry about our money—we will take care of it. Your responsibility is to make the market fair, transparent and trustworthy—not turn it into a gambling ground.
Accepting a mistake is not wrong. You are not God. Even God has shown that accepting mistakes is not a weakness.
Sir, disrupting an established market structure is a huge decision, and what has happened is not acceptable without proper evidence and testing.
Just put yourself in our shoes for a moment. If this were happening to you and your own money, what would you do?
Please don’t misuse the power of your position. You may have the backing of the government or the institution, but that does not mean you should stop listening to the people affected by your decisions.
This is my country too. I live in a democracy, and I have every right to question decisions that affect our markets and our money.
So please, just listen to us. Don’t make this about ego. Look at the data, listen to market participants, and if the decision is wrong, have the courage to reconsider it.
Because ultimately, a regulator’s strength is not in refusing to change—it is in having the courage to correct a decision when the evidence demands it.

Can anyone explain what type of price discovery is this?? SEBI is the most corrupted and is market manipulator. I request @PMOIndia and @FinMinIndia to look into this . This will kill indian eq market after killing the traders .
Let’s dissect today’s CAS monstrosity.
1). SENSEX -
Entire day’s move from the high: 0.48%.
From the open: just 0.22%.
Yet the CAS candle alone moved a staggering 0.55%.
2). INDICATIVE PRICE-
Went below 75,000 — nearly 2.5% below the 3:15 PM close.
3). 76,500 CE-
Entire-day decay from the high: 220 points.
CAS 15-minute decay: 220 points.
An entire day’s decay wiped out in 15 minutes.
4). 77,000 PE-
Entire-day move from the low: 175 points.
CAS 15-minute move: 500 points.
Read that again.
The CAS 15-minute window produced more extreme movement than the entire trading day.
If this is what “price discovery” is supposed to look like, then we have a serious problem.
This isn't making markets more predictable.
It is making them increasingly impossible to trade.

1.5 crore!!!!!!
The arrogant regulator will again come with interim notice on manipulations and penalises them. But what about the traders who take the losses coz of this?
@SEBI_India@CNBC_Awaaz@_anujsinghal
All the best for today’s BSE Mock trading between 9:15 to 3:15 .
The fair price will be discovered during CASINO time between 3:21 to 3:30

They don’t care whether we trade or not. Instead of complaining individually, let’s unite and raise our voice together.
If CAS is hurting market participants, we should peacefully protest outside the SEBI office in Mumbai and demand answers.
United voices cannot be ignored.

@rcashare@narendramodi Exactly. And if the government agrees STT is hurting investors, why hasn’t it been removed?
Tax investors heavily, then distribute freebies for political gains—is this really the economic model we want?
