Landsat 9 captured very clear images of the Himalayan glacier that collapsed, triggering the catastrophic flash floods in Nepal.

Estimating very roughly from these images, it appears that the area that failed may have spanned ~1 km² of ice and rock.

The mountain gave way because a hanging glacier tongue sheared off and dropped about 4,000 feet into the valley. That ice was already flowing over a cliff. A warm spell the day before likely sent meltwater down to the bed — water lube that cut friction so the hanging block lost its grip. The falling ice and rock hit the river, briefly dammed it, then released a surge of water, mud, and boulders down the Bhote Koshi–Trishuli system
