On Veteran’s Day, I was able to participate in the procession and dedication to the National Native Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC, to honor my own service as a Native veteran in the U.S. Navy, and also the service of my ancestors. It’s always a good day to be Indigenous. 🖤

This week was long but I’m so happy with my first experience @ASCRM41. I got to present along side amazing scholars, establish connections with new people, and explore a beautiful city! I look forward to next year in California.

This is something that absolutely brightens up my day! The OU McNair Scholars program was absolutely pivotal in my success in undergrad and my first master’s degree and led me to becoming a McNair Fellow at UMD. I’m so beyond happy to see that it’s being re-established! 🖤

Genuinely, my main dissertation writing tip for PhD students (or anyone!) is to make an additional document for each of your chapters, and then paste everything you cut out into it. Cannot describe how many times I went back and retrieved things I thought I’d never use.

The most welcome news to wake up to. As an adoptee under ICWA, I was able to be adopted by a family member through my tribe and keep connected to my heritage. ICWA protected me, and I’m glad it lives on to protect other Native children and tribal sovereignty.

#SCOTUS has released its opinion in #Brackeen. A case that challenged a 40-yr-old law to prevent family separation in Native communities & threatened tribal sovereignty. In a victory for tribes, the Court upheld #ICWA.

For months Native people have been bracing for a disastrous decision in #Brackeen and today we are breathing a sigh of relief.

In a case that could have dismantled the foundations of federal Indian law, the Supreme Court said no.
