JD literally got @JamesMartinSJ on tape saying that he agreed and submitted to church teaching and how he would explain the ends of unity and procreation to someone questioning Church teaching, every time of y'all are still hating
@mcinthedc Any conversation about “is X a sin?” Inevitably required such a long conversation about circumstances/ culpability that its pointless to talk about online. Keep doing your best, love God, and if you’re worried, ask your priest and confess regularly. That’s all that’s asked of us
I lied. Wendell Berry is whiteface for people who should know better. I know you think he helped but he only made it worse. He’s a yuppie whisperer, meant to obscure the stakes and the sooner you see it the better
Some believe Dorothy Day was a communist & a liberal Catholic. She wasn’t. Following her conversion, she set up initiatives to draw workers away from communism to situate them firmly within Catholic Social Teaching. Spiritually, she was as traditional as you can get: she had tremendous devotion to the Mass, rosary & Stations of the Cross. She fostered a deep love for the poor & embraced a life of poverty to serve them. She was opposed to war & did join in anti-war protests, though she was horrified by how extreme some anti-war protestors were. When a man burned himself to death at a protest she was stunned & deeply upset, she tells us she prayed ardently for his soul. Dorothy was a faithful daughter of the Church, embracing the Church & its teachings with full assent & devotion while manifesting what seems like heroic virtue (the Church will judge that definitively). To pull her out of her life of service & devotion to either hail or denounce her as a communist is to misunderstand her. And Mary’s point here is worth noting: Cardinal O’Connor had no time for communism, but he knew a Saint when he saw one.
I am hearing that on his deathbed Ernst Jünger received the light of Catholicism and recited the Baltimore Catechism. Truly Christ is Lord and the Pope His Vicar.
Hegelian anime:
- Frieren (defending order vs the contingency of nature represented by demons)
- Gundam (Young Newtypes are formed in space, the older Generation in charge on earth; they are very different so they clash)
- Gurren Lagann (constant progression towards more and more power until humanity becomes godlike)
Nietzschean anime:
- Berserk, needs no explanation
- Evangelion (the self is just a signifier, existence is pain, trying to remove pain is like removing life itself, although that's also in Hegel but not with the irrationalist element)
- Attack on Titan (genealogy of where paradis comes from, then transvaluation of values)
Ernst Jünger converted to Catholicism in 1996, aged 101. In a 1995 interview, when asked about his relationship to God and religion, he said: “The reality of the divine is undeniable to me, but it is also difficult to define and name.” The following year, he entered the Church.
There is a reason the first miracle was the Wedding at Cana, turning water into wine. Nothing useful or "pragmatic" but purely for the joy of being alive.
"Every step is a step toward the goal, including the steps backward." (Ernst Jünger, a German writer. He is chiefly known for his war memoirs, novellas, and various essays. At the age of 101, he converted to the Catholic faith on September 26, 1996.)
