this much-appreciated post has brought us so much work by Klimt which is rarely or never seen. it certainly allows us to know what a wide range of styles this great painter had; usually, just a small fraction of Klimt's highly stylized, decorative work is reproduced.
Productive 2 hours at the Met tonight. It’s how I like to spend my evenings. It’s been quite a while since I went as regularly as I used to, almost every weekend.
Why do it? I don’t sell my work. Quite frankly, I cringe at myself posting distorted pictures of sketches I usually keep to myself, but it’s fulfilling somehow. It keeps me accountable.
I actually cringe at compliments so no need. They rarely get you anywhere close to improving. Constructive feedback from other artists is rare unless someone has followed your progress closely over time.
Also, I met another sketcher studying Raphael. It’s funny, when he saw me starting, he said, « Ready to get beat up by Raphael? » I laughed because that’s exactly how it felt. Only another fellow Met sketcher can relate.
But if someone happens to come across this type of post and it helps them go to a museum next time and have a more productive experience, then I guess it’s worth posting.
Just your regular reminder that Tolkien was not just a Professor or writer but a skilled artist when it came to painting and illustrating. He created beautiful things.
