Michigan could make it a FELONY with up to 5 years in prison and a $10,000 fine for misgendering.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer is expected to sign into law HB 4474, if it passes through the next vote in the Michigan Senate.

The bill, which just passed the Michigan House vote, would make it a HATE CRIME to misgender someone or use the wrong pronouns.

The bill says that anyone who intimidates a transgender person could be charged with a felony offense.

“'Intimidate means a willful course of conduct involving repeated or continuing harassment of another individual that would cause a reasonable individual to feel terrorized, frightened, or threatened, and that actually causes the victim to feel terrorized, frightened, or threatened.”

Anyone who uses the wrong pronouns would face Felony charges, with up to a $10,000 fine or up to 5 years in prison.
