Why I'm not a DRep anymore, by Johnny Kelly:
Once I was asked to critically read and critique ~195 Proposals, Submitted Ad-Hoc, and try to make a *truly informed* Yes/No decision on whether or not they should receive funding. Even in working areas in which I have absolutely no formal experience.
I Retired as a DRep.
It felt like the only honest option for me.
Anything else would have felt like misrepresenting my level of expertise/understanding in certain aspects of the Ecosystem (e.g. Marketing) or not being honest about how much time I'd *really* spent reading over *every* Proposal's content.
I would have been fine with having a say in what the overall list of *Work Items* to be *fulfilled* were, with that fulfilment then being worked out via specialised Groups collaborating alongside any ADA Community Member who wanted to contribute their experience and understanding towards Awarding final Funding Allocations.
I *wasn't* fine with having to weigh in on Full Allocation of Funding to Vendors across multiple aspects of Ecosystem Development and Support all in one go (in 12 days), without being able to have a say in the actual *Work Items* to be fulfilled in the first place (yes there was the Roadmap Vote, but it was superceded by what actually happened next).
We were going to have a formalised and structured Budget to be systematically worked at one point. It got replaced with a free-for-all ad-hoc submissions process.
Once that happened, I was out.
I remember the time when just mentioning the word “RFP”would make you a target for a mob.
RFPs are the way to go. If done right, they make your treasury cardano:native go a long way.

Where I stopped briefly on my way back from all the places I was going, intentionally and unintentionally, today after leaving them all behind to head home to where I've been staying...
@shaq81936537 I believe those 2 sheep agree with you, hey!
Especially since a fella on a quad bike had just come to give them both a fresh bucket of water to drink from when I arrived.
@onespaacekittay He says he does about 3 hours a day on the Loom(s), and that they are currently making up the fabrics for the Shop's Winter Collection later in the year on them.
They used to have 36 Looms, but the industry isn't what it was.
Now they've ony got the 2 at the back of the Shop.
I woke up at 9:30 am instead of the usual 8:30 am to go downstairs for breakfast in the BnB.
Went down without getting washed in any way, ate, then came straight back up the stairs to my room again to sleep until just a few minutes ago (4:10 pm).
And will be going back to sleep again presently, after having used the facilities upon waking.
My body is in deep sleep & recovery mode today, it would seem!
Speaking of aging...
There was a time in my life where if I got up to dance enthusiastically I would very quickly draw a crowd to join with me.
These days, my getting up to dance enthusiastically leads to crowd dispersal and folks deciding it's going home time.
Such is life.
The Choice of a New Generation:
I've ended up in a Pub called Evelyns Central Bar in a Village called Carrick in County Donegal.
There's an 18th Birthday Party Disco happening here this evening. There's a *lot* of young folk in, naturally.
It is loud and energetic and it's making me think of the loss of my youth.
I *am* curious to know what songs are enjoyable to today's 18 year olds, though.
And, so far, I've been enjoying the musical choices.
But I guess the small village countryside area affects the tastes of the local generation.
