💕👨👩👧👦 How Parents Can Help Teenage Athletes Stress Less 🏃♀️🏊♂️
They are stressed about their grades, they are stressed about their sports, and they are stressed about trying to live up to the facade of perfection they see on social media.
But here's how YOU, parents, can take the pedal off the gas, connect with them, and be their unwavering support system:
1️⃣ Encourage them to do activities just for FUN, not a means to an end 🤹♂️
2️⃣ Teach them to embrace their failures as learning experiences 📚
3️⃣ Focus on lessons learned, not unrealistic expectations 🎓
4️⃣ Celebrate participation, whether they are on the bench or in the game 🎉
5️⃣ Applaud effort over achievements🏅
6️⃣ Have open and honest conversations about how they feel 🗣️
7️⃣ Discuss all college options and all paths, not just the elite ones 🏫
8️⃣ Emphasize teamwork and team goals, not individual 🤝
9️⃣ Recognize our own insecurities and the role it has in their stress 😔
🔟 Share insight with them into our own backgrounds and reasons we push🏈
1️⃣1️⃣ Let them miss a practice or a class and enjoy a fun treat occasionally 🍦
1️⃣2️⃣ Engage in their hobbies and interests, watch a show or listen to music they like in the car 🎸
1️⃣3️⃣ Show unconditional love and support, NOT pressure and critiques ❤️
1️⃣4️⃣ALWAYS TELL THEM YOU LOVE TO WATCH THEM PLAY💛
🤔Give these a try and help stop your child's stress today. 🛑
