Gavin learnt how to tie sheaves + make stooks from Jimmy Beaton of Cnoc Oran, Iona in 1975. Our sons, now in their 30s, learnt these skills as children. Wonder how many other young people there are now with these skills? 'Sa Gàidhlig, but the visuals are clear enough?
A superb trip yesterday afternoon with @boattripsiona to a tiny island off the south end of Iona. Nice to catch up with skipper Mark Jardine. Few folk know the waters around those parts like he does.
Felt so great to get the doors open today! A tentative start, serving through the door, but nice to breathe some life back into the shop and see smiling faces again ♥️😊.
For the moment though, https://t.co/cisRkL4kln is still the easiest way to browse and shop. #ionacraftshop
Did you know the shortest place-name in the world is the one-letter Gaelic for Iona – Ì. It is often known as Eilean Ì or Ì Chaluim Chille, the latter linking it to its most famous inhabitant Calum Cille (‘dove of the church’, St Columba) #gaelic#stayhome#staysafe
