Didn't quite expect a "civil" war in the Iraqi Kurdistan to happen this late into 2026,but here we go.
The region is marred by a complete collapse of perspectives and now Iran war and Iraq's state capture take an increasing toll. IMO we haven't yet seen anything. It takes time.
Just in: The PUK is set to announce an interim government in Sulaimani and begin the constitutional process, through Iraq’s election commission, to establish a separate region covering Sulaimani and Halabja governorates.
At a meeting in Sulaimani today, attended by the party’s senior leadership, heads of its security agencies and retired leaders, the PUK decided not to recognise the parliament, to withdraw from the current KRG cabinet and to trigger the constitutional steps towards a separate region.
Who knows when the next round of the war is going to start. Might be tonight. But the Roosevelt aircraft carrier still hasnt entered the Middle East. Its late. The assumption was that the third aircraft carrier was to make up for closer US bases being damaged. Strike intensity would suffer.
Not just your random French foreign fighter of the Islamic State
The man was a veteran ideologue and media contributor of al-Hayāt Media and writer and editor of the French language magazine Dār al-Islām
NEW: Former INIS chief Shatri was a pioneer in engaging with Sharaa after Assad's downfall. Yet he was ousted on the eve of Zaidi's trip to Damascus, the first by an Iraqi PM since 2024.
Zaidi is now also the 3rd consecutive PM to (temporarily?) also head the spy agency. Hmm.
In principle, Iraq as a victim of ISIS terrorism rightfully claims jurisdiction to prosecute all members of the terror group.
France had the chance to take its “nationals” & do with them what it sees fit. By refusing to do so, France left Iraq no other choice. (1)
« La société israélienne qui, dans son écrasante majorité, a pensé pouvoir éliminer les Palestinien·nes de son horizon, se trouve donc dans la situation paradoxale de voir ces derniers se retrouver en position d’arbitres au Parlement » (Joseph Confavreux @JoConfa@Mediapart)
He isn't wrong. France developed through centuries of centralized state-building. France is an amalgamation of various peoples, while Germany is the unification of Germans.
What percent of Frenchmen spoke French during the revolution? Only ~10-20%.
Lorsqu’E.
It's also that they know there's no decent tactical SIGINT facing them since the UAE left, years ago.
This kind of set-up is right for caves, separated by distance and rock from antennae, but once command and control goes above ground, it is still a man on a bike who takes the message away before communicating via low-power radio or voice. Even now I doubt they do a lot of emitting anywhere near a sector commander.
