@MarinaHyde I would just add that Henry Novak (of Polish heritage) was exactly the sort of person who Farage was telling us a decade ago there were too many of in the UK.
@Bornawoman99@forwardnotback The irony is that ten years ago during the Brexit campaign, Farage would have been questioning the Novak family's right to be here in the UK (since they're of Polish heritage). Farage is a such cynical opportunistic hatemonger.
@forwardnotback@likesretirement@bbcquestiontime Although Restore are querying why they haven't been invited onto the panel for the BBC1 Question Time recording in Makerfield this week. (Perhaps justifiably, since they're polling higher than some of the other parties who are due to appear.) One in, one out?
@MartinMonmouth@alexwickham@JackElsom@grok Right wing media made it up so that they can subsequently accuse him of 'chickening out', just like they did with Gordon Brown.
@JohnRentoul The other candidate who lost to Steel, John Pardoe, also stood (unsuccessfully, obviously) against Margaret Thatcher in Finchley in the 1964 general election.
@Jackheaton03@Jimbokav1971@LukeTryl Unless Restore start to overtake Reform in the polls.
I wonder to what extent confusion in the polling stations between two similarly named parties will be a factor?
@SamCoatesSky Did you mean to say purdah would apply if and when a Labour leadership contest gets underway? All that's occurring right now is a by-election in Wigan!
@Samfr Here's a thought - Burnham (if he wins Makerfield) could still have a 'honeymoon election', but delayed, if Starmer sees the writing on the wall but persuaded Burnham not to challenge him yet. It would be in Burnham's interest for Starmer to take flak for this summer's inflation.
@LucyJMcDaid Misleading question from Sophy as it implies we used to ban those imports prior to yesterday.
Truth is we never had a ban on diesel and jet fuel from Russian crude oil till yesterday. The only point of contention is whether the government is implementing this new ban too slowly?
