@drewcrawford_ Anybody can buy coffee beans... but it takes an Italian to create the perfect blend, the perfect roast, the perfect brand...
Everybody can make threads and fabric. Not everybody is Valentino.
Antarctica krill population, in some places declines of as much as 80% as super trawlers steal the food meant for whales seals penguins and birds leaving them to starve

@HunterBiden@LivolsiT28710@AdamParkhomenko Oh... I'm sorry for what happened to your laptop (though, I confess I might be the only American who doesn't know a thing about it, what's all the fuss)...
But I'm seeing your paintings for the first time... and they're really beautiful, man!
"Globally, we’ve lost over 50% of the phytoplankton biomass since the 1950s, and we’re continuing to lose it about 1 to 2 percent a year. Never mind nuclear war. This is what’s going to kill us.”
You know the phytoplankton that creates most our our oxygen

@GodsBurnt If you tell me exactly, and convincingly, what $BTC really is (is it a currency? an asset? a commodity?) I'll bite. To me, it has always been quite a nerdy, pricy, useless gadget...
Trump, Musk and Rubio slashed aid and scoffed that it was woke nonsense. Now they're seeing that it not only saved one life every 10 seconds but also protected us from diseases like Ebola. Their actions constituted a security failure as well as a moral one.
More broadly, their fecklessness contrasts with the courage and humanity of doctors and aid workers in Congo and Uganda, lacking adequate PPE but still risking the virus to care for fellow humans.
Trump, Musk and Rubio might learn something from them. https://t.co/kPKj7fqJFZ
To be clear, none of this is real "AI". This is machine learning with a transformer layer on top of it. And that transformer layer is all stolen work. The pre-training layer is data scraped (stolen) from the internet or fed into it via OCR. The RLHF layer is free work we provide.
The Trump administration has announced it will dismantle a $368 million deep-ocean monitoring system that provides critical data on the world’s oceans, per CNN
@blennon_ But, I do like to do all these managing things myself.
I need someone I trust to do the dishes, do the laundry and tidy up the house, consistently, the kids are unreliable. The organization part is where I truly get my thrills.
We Are Living in the Dumbest Timeline
Donald Trump just posted a photo of a wind turbine next to birds and captioned it “Killing birds by the millions!”
He posted this without irony.
For every single bird killed by a wind turbine, nuclear and fossil fuel plants kill 2,118 birds. Coal alone kills roughly 7.9 million birds a year in the United States. Wind turbines? Between 140,000 and 328,000. That is not a defence of wind turbines.
We are living in genuinely, historically stupid times. Only rivalled, frankly, by the medieval peasants who blamed the Black Death on cats and promptly killed all the cats, which meant the rats multiplied, which meant more plague.
At least the peasants had the excuse of having no access to information whatsoever.
Trump has the internet. He chose this.
