“Life has a way of talking to the future. It’s called memory.”

It is April again..

My little brother was born on the 7th of April.

My brother is akin to a seed whose growth reflects the seasons of his childhood.

Just as the number of rings indicates the number of years the tree has been alive - the thinnest rings represent the coldest years, while the thickest circles represent the warmest years - all experiences he’s gone through since that dark day are stored in his body, in and between the growth rings of Rwanda.

As water and blood irrigate our bodies, he has been nurtured by Rwanda’s history.

He has blossomed into a strong and resilient tree, rooted in the land of our ancestors.

His beautiful voice echoes the country’s experience through the walls of times.

Today, like all children of Rwanda, he’s growing by branching out in different directions, to reach the light.

Time like season sometimes seems impossible to overcome, like a vertical road.

Like all children of Rwanda, he has now the necessary strength and resilience to go through any season, drought or floods, a thunderstorm or spring.

Thirty years later, I must admit, I truly admire the generation born during and after 1994.
They know who they are and trust their heart. They will learn how to take care of each other, how to communicate any events through their roots, and to continue to stand still and strong together.
Shaping their future(s).
