Katsina State Government Renovates 150 Primary Schools across 34 Local Government Areas

The Katsina State Government, in collaboration with the Ministry of Basic & Secondary Education (MBASE) and the State Universal Basic Education Board, is currently engaged in a significant effort to uplift the standard of education in Katsina State. This initiative involves the renovation of 150 primary schools spread across 34 Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs) within the state.

Governor Malam Dikko Radda, on the 10th of February, approved the allocation of four billion Naira for the immediate renovation of these dilapidated primary schools. It is important to note that these funds have been disbursed to the most underserved and disadvantaged schools in the state. The primary objective of this endeavor is to enhance the overall effectiveness of these educational institutions and improve the learning outcomes of the students.

The School-Based Management Committees (SBMCs) of these schools will be responsible for undertaking the projects using a Community Driven Development (CDD) approach. The scope of these projects includes the construction of an additional block of three classrooms, office, and storage facilities. Moreover, provisions will be made for water and sanitation facilities, such as boreholes and separate toilets for girls. Additionally, major or minor rehabilitation of classrooms will also be carried out.

On Friday, the 22nd of March 2024, a monitoring team from the Katsina State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education visited Kirkini and Kafin Soli Primary schools in Kankia, as well as Shagumba Primary School in Batagarawa LGEA. This team comprised several key members, including the Honorable Commissioner of MBASE, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Hajia Mario Muhammed. The Executive Chairman of SUBEB and the State Project Coordinator, Hajia Binta Abdulmumin, were also present, along with project team members, directors from various agencies, representatives from the Federal Ministry of Education and UBEC, a team of engineers, and myself, among others.

This important project is also in collaboration with Transforming Education System at State Level (TESS) and BESDA-AF.
