Think of our minds as a Microsoft Word document.
Unlike others, ADHDers don't have an auto save function. So, we write stuff down but it gets erased when we close the file.
When we do save, it's on the desktop with a random name so it's hard to find the info when we need it.
Apparently I've been in denial about my OCD traits but finally realized why obsessive thoughts drain me so bad: I settle and resolve and obsessive thought and then forget I worked through it, and so I have to obsess about it again, and again, and again...
ADHD'ers' time blindness doesn't just impact our ability to imagine time or feel it passing. It also makes it more difficult to plan in respect to time.
This is true on a shorter scale of "how long will this task take?" AND a longer scale of "what do I do after this degree/job"
I’m not sure if this is an ADHD thing or an anxiety thing, or a fun combination of both, but I am very easily overwhelmed. By good things, by bad things, by noises, by attention, by notifications on my phone. I think it’s why I like nighttime so much. It’s just less EVERYTHING.
OK IDEA FOR A NEW STREAMING SERVICE, someone make this happen:
EVERY TIME YOU PAUSE, there’s a brief description of what’s happening in that scene. For those of us who got distracted.
Me: *struggles to start a thing, even though I wanna do it* Why can't I just start this thing!?!!? I should just start...
Also me: *does a thing well beyond the point of enjoyment* Why am I still doing this? I should just stop...
When you have a hyperactive mind (like many ADHD'ers do), it can be our own worst enemy.
It can latch onto our failings, regrets, and mistakes, ruminate on them for hours... all at twice or three times playback speed
Me, experiencing auditory processing issues: "What?..." then promptly answering the question I was asked.
Also me, experiencing auditory processing issues: "I know you repeated it three times now. I hear the sounds, but I can't put them together for the life of me. Once more?"😬
Hi, if you're looking into ADHD and keep stopping yourself with the "but I'm probably just lazy", please know that everyone I've met who got diagnosed with ADHD as an adult felt the same way before diagnosis. You wouldn't be angsting over it so much it it was just laziness.
Have you noticed a big increase in the number of people realizing they're ADHD, autistic, or otherwise neurodivergent this year?
It's probably not because it's trendy. Rather, people often don't seek help until they're at a point of crisis, and this year has been a giant crisis
It's funny how my brain can just ignore that pile of clothes on the floor and jump over it for months like it's part of the furniture but then cannot filter out background noise from neighbors and have meltdowns over it.
This is my experience with primarily inattentive ADHD. Rarely physically hyper, but my mind is jumping around, always. Even if I'm fatigued.
I don't really identify with the trope of "racing thoughts" unless my anxiety is high... "Restless" feels like a more accurate word.
There is this weird stigma that being ADHD means that you cannot be successful or good at what you do. But honestly, I have yet to meet an ADHD person that isn't insanely talented in some way. I feel many of them don't even realize their talent because of Imposter Syndrome.
