ঢাকার লালবাগ থানার খাজা দেওয়ান সিং লেনের একটি বাড়িতে ছোট ছোট তিন সন্তান ও স্ত্রী হ্যাপীকে নিয়ে বসবাস করতেন “মিস্টার বাংলাদেশ” খেতাবধারী বডি বিল্ডার ফারুক হোসেন। তাকে ধরে নিয়ে যাস্ট পিটিয়ে হত্যা করেছে পুলিশ।

১২ জানুয়ারি রাত ৯টার দিকে ফারুক দোকান থেকে কিছু কিনতে বাসা থেকে বের হন। পথিমধ্যে তাকে তুলে নিয়ে যায় কায়েতটুলি ফাঁড়ির পুলিশ। ঘন্টাখানেক পরে তার স্ত্রীকে ফাঁড়ি থেকে ফোন করে জানায়, তার স্বামীকে মাদক নিয়ে আটক করেছে, ছাড়াতে টাকা লাগবে ১ লাখ। দুই বছরের সন্তানকে কোলে নিয়ে স্ত্রী হ্যাপী ছুটে যান ফাঁড়িতে। গিয়ে দেখেন স্বামীকে মারধর করছে পুলিশ।

স্ত্রী তখন ফাঁড়ির এসআই বুলবুল, ইমদাদ, মাসুদ রানা এদের হাতে পায়ে ধরে স্বামীকে ছেড়ে দিতে আর্জি করেন। তিনি বলেন, তার স্বামী মাদক কারবারী বা সেবী নন। তিনি “মিস্টার বাংলাদেশ” খ্যাত বডি বিল্ডার। তিনি সিটি ব্যাংকের সাবেক চেয়ারম্যান মোহাম্মদ শোয়েবের ব্যক্তিগত দেহরক্ষী। তার একার আয়েই সংসার চলে। কিন্তু ’দেশের রাজা’ পুলিশ তা শুনবে কেনো? “হয় টাকা দাও, নইলে চালান করে দিবো”। পরে পুলিশ স্বামীকে ছাড়ার বিনিমেয়ে স্ত্রীকে প্রস্তাব দেন “পুলিশের সাথে শুতে হবে”! কিন্তু স্ত্রী হ্যাপী তাতে রাজী হন না। এরপরে রাতে ফারুক হোসেনকে ১৫০ গ্রাম গাঁজা উদ্ধার দেখিয়ে বংশাল থানায় পাঠিয়ে দেয়। সেখানে ওসি মাইনুল ইসলামের হাতে পায়ে ধরেও স্বামীকে ছাড়তে ব্যর্থ হন হ্যাপী।

দু’দিন পরে ঢাকা মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতাল থেকে পুলিশ ফোন করে হ্যাপীকে বলে, "লাশ নিতে আসেন, আপনার স্বামী মারা গেছে!"

বংশাল থানা পুলিশের একটি সূত্র জানায়। থানা হেফাজতে সেই রাতে পুলিশের অমানবিক নির্যাতনের ফলে ফারুকের মৃত্যু হয়েছে। তার গলায়, বুকে, পিঠে সহ সারা শরীরে পুলিশের নির্যাতনের চিহ্ন দেখা গেছে।

A senior Bangladesh minister brazenly says that India stood by his party during the elections. He is admitting the unethical Indian interference in our national elections in his party's favor.

The world already knows that India shamelessly deployed their intelligence agencies to harass opposition leaders and make them participate in elections against their will. Then they quickly endorsed the victory of Sheikh Hasina's party in that election despite 95% of the voters abstaining from voting.

India needs to understand why its neighbors are complaining about its unethical interference in internal politics. They also need to understand that relationships between people are more important than siding with a particular political party.

Sooner or later India will have to pay for the mistake of not showing the least respect for the rights of its neighbours.

নাম যেটাই হোক এই শাস্তি বাংলাদেশের জনগণের প্রাপ্যই।

জাগ্রত হোন অথবা প্রস্তুতি নিন আরও অত্যাচার সহ্য করার।

Stop the propaganda. Stop this character assassination.

People know that your leader Sheikh Mujib abolished the democratic system of Bangladesh by introducing his one-party "Bakshal" system where no one but Mujib could become head of state during his lifetime. Along with that, he banned all newspapers except four state-run newspapers that were deployed only to praise him and his government. So democracy had no place in his era.

In contrast, late President Zia restored the multi-party democratic system and opened the democratic space to all. His election was praised worldwide. Even the then US President Jimmy Carter praised the democratization of Bangladesh's political system under Zia's leadership as well as the inspiring open and free election process.
