Today in 1985, Anne of Green Gables aired on CBC.
The mini-series was a massive success, earning among the highest ratings for any program of any genre ever aired on Canadian TV.
It won 10 Geminis and a Peabody.
Its success spawned a sequel and the TV series Road to Avonlea.
