The regional Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART), activated by @SecRubio on October 29 in response to Hurricane Melissa’s catastrophic damage to the Caribbean, has deployed and is on the ground in Jamaica along with search and rescue teams.  The DART leads the U.S. Government’s disaster response efforts at the authorization of President Donald J. Trump and is rapidly mobilizing to assist the people of Jamaica. The United States stands with Jamaica as they respond to the impacts of the hurricane and remains prepared to swiftly deliver emergency relief items to communities most severely affected.

Led by the U.S. Department of State, Joint Task Force-Bravo began deployment to Kingston, Jamaica, yesterday, on a mission to provide humanitarian and disaster relief assistance following Hurricane Melissa.  Three CH-47 Chinooks from the 1st Battalion, 228 Aviation Regiment, carried 40 service members and supplies as part of the initial effort to provide immediate, lifesaving and humanitarian support. They will provide ongoing U.S. disaster relief assistance missions requested by the government of Jamaica.
