Adam Waterous Executive Chairman of Strathcona Resources "Industry has a different view that they have not seen evidence that actually buyers will pay a premium for decarbonization carbonized oil."
"...There's another party which is basically the investment community, and that they're going to be very conscious of what their investment alternatives."
"And right now, the investment alternatives for many of them look better in the United States."
Facts:
1. TMX is a government asset whose costs are covered by tolls from O&G producers. It is profitable.
2. Oilsands are not the most expensive barrel anymore, because it’s not 2015. They are generally among the lowest break-even barrels in North America.
3. Oilsands are not the most carbon intensive barrels. They are only 1-3% higher emitting than the average US refinery barrel, and are lower emitting than heavy oil competitors Iraq, California and Venezuela.

Jon McKenzie, CEO of Cenovus, came out swinging on their Q1 conference call today. Great to see CEO's becoming more vocal about our squandered opportunity! To summarize: no other oil producing country is doing this to themselves...time for Canada to wake up!
A bit lost in the good news of the Enbridge $4B Sunrise expansion is that 36 nations got a 12.5% stake in Enbridge’s Westcoast natural gas pipeline system last year with the first federal Indigenous loan guarantee, to help pave the way for this.
It's good to be reminded that there are pathways for mutual benefit and we have good tools and willingness to find those, including in BC and including on pipelines.
There's Indigenous ownership in over 5000km of pipelines in Canada.

This past weekend, we saw the full effects of Ontario’s extreme weather.
It’s exactly in conditions like this that we rely on the robust energy supply mix Ontario has built. World-class nuclear, hydro, and natural gas systems - including the @enbridgegas Dawn Hub - kept the heat on for families, and operations moving for industries.
The ideologically-driven opposition and their support groups pedal claims that renewables alone can get us through extreme temperatures, but the evidence is clear: while we saw nuclear and natural gas continue to deliver at peak demand, wind contributed less than 3% of its capacity.
Ontario’s energy advantage is rooted in a diverse mix of energy - including more nuclear. It’s what is keeping rates affordable, keeps our power secure, and keeps our economy protected: even on the coldest days.
That’s why we’re continuing to build based on what actually works — today and for generations to come.
Socialists like New York City’s new mayor push the “warmth” of collectivism. Activists chant about “sharing the prosperity.”
But every time they build their model of a socialist utopia, a commune, they fail!
National Bank CEO Ferreira said there’s an “economic war” going on and Canada needs to speed up the building of key projects if it wants to be a part of this “new world order.” Any opposition to the nation-building plan, “whether it’s ideology, whether it’s bureaucracy, is not a good thing for our country.”

The U.S. Energy Secretary just obliterated Net Zero ideology in 60 seconds.
Oil, gas, and coal power EVERYTHING including green energy.
This is what adults sound like.
Liberals are not ready for this conversation.
Just some clarification on this for folks:
1. There is no increase in the carbon price on April 1 under the MOU.
2. Alberta and the Feds will negotiate a new carbon pricing agreement to replace the existing one by April 1, but the price will not be going up on April 1
3. The old/current agreement had the carbon price going to $170 by 2030 which everyone agrees is impossible and would greatly harm industry
4. The new to be negotiated carbon price agreement will scale up to eventually reach $130 however, we are negotiating the timeline for that increase and stringency with the Feds with industry at the table
5. Alberta heavy industry is almost unanimous in supporting this approach - and are very happy about it
In the meantime - there is no more emissions cap or net zero power regs - so let’s get investing and building Alberta !
Since 1980, Alberta lost $653 BILLION to Ottawa.
And Danielle Smith's revenge plan could destroy Canada.
But her secret weapon isn't what you think...
Here's the strategy that has Ottawa panicking:
(1/2) I am disappointed with U.S. President Donald Trump’s @realDonaldTrump decision to place tariffs on all Canadian goods. This decision will harm Canadians and Americans alike, and strain the important relationship and alliance between our two nations.
Alberta will do everything in its power to convince the U.S. President and Congress, as well as the American people, to reverse this mutually destructive policy.
We note the reduced 10% tariff for Canadian energy which is partially a recognition of the advocacy undertaken by our Government and industry to the U.S. Administration pointing out the substantial wealth created in the U.S. by American companies and tens of thousands of American workers that upgrade and refine approximately $100 billion of Canadian crude into $300 billion of product sold all over the world by those same U.S. companies.
It is also worth noting that if oil and gas exports are excluded, the United States actually sells more to Canada than Canada sells to the U.S.. As I’ve stated to every American policymaker I’ve met with these past months, Canada buys more from the U.S. than any country on earth - more than U.K., France, Germany, Italy and Vietnam combined. There is, therefore, no economic justification for tariffs imposed on any Canadian goods.
Alberta will continue our diplomatic efforts in the United States to persuade the U.S. President, lawmakers, Administration officials and the American people to lift all tariffs on Canadian goods as soon as possible and to repair our relationship with the United States. I encourage all Premiers and federal officials to do the same, especially as the effects of these tariffs begin to take their toll south of the border. Americans need to understand the detrimental consequences of this policy decision.
Alberta will also work collaboratively with our federal government and fellow provinces on a proportionate response to the imposed U.S. tariffs through the strategic use of Canadian import tariffs on U.S. goods that are more easily purchased from Canada and non-U.S. suppliers. This will minimize costs to Canadian consumers while creating maximum impact south of the border. All funds raised from such import tariffs should go directly to benefit the Canadians most harmed by the imposed U.S. tariffs.
Alberta will, however, continue to strenuously oppose any effort to ban exports to the U.S. or to tax our own people and businesses on goods leaving Canada for the United States. Such tactics would hurt Canadians far more than Americans.
We also continue Alberta’s call for the appointment of a border czar to coordinate the securing of our border against illegal migrants and drugs moving in both directions, and to achieve our nation’s 2% of GDP NATO commitment by 2027. These things should be done for the safety of all Canadians regardless of our trade dispute with the United States
Despite the disappointment of today’s decision there is also an incredible opportunity before us as a nation. Canada can and must now come together in an unprecedented effort to preserve the livelihoods and futures of our people and expand our political and trade relationships across the globe. We can no longer afford to be so heavily reliant on one primary customer. We must stop limiting our prosperity and inflicting economic wounds on ourselves.
Rather, we must unleash the true economic potential of our country, which possesses more wealth and natural resources than any other nation on earth.
The Albertan oil and gas sector is the lifeblood of the Canadian economy. Recent events should be a wakeup call for all Canadians to this reality. With more oil pipelines accessing both coasts, we would never be threatened like this again.
I used to think I was rational.

“I'm here to tell you that the western world is in danger and it is endangered because those who are supposed to have to defend the values of the West are co-opted by a vision of the world that inextricably leads to socialism and thereby to poverty.”
“Unfortunately, in recent decades, motivated by some well-meaning individuals willing to help others and others motivated by the wish to belong to a privileged caste.”
“The main leaders of the Western world have abandoned the model of freedom for different versions of what we call collectivism. We are here to tell you that collectivist experiments are never the solution to the problems that afflict the citizens of the world. Rather, they are the root cause.”
