@charvisfranklin and The Love Project from Bayside Church selected EC Basketball and I as the recipient of a $3,000 sponsorship for the love we spread in our community. I have been overwhelmed with the respect, thoughtfulness, and love Charvis has shown my family and I.

@JourneysinFilm Sounds great! I’ve had several structured discussions based on Selma and Malcolm X as sources as well.

A4. Precisely why I joined the chat tonight. There’s got to be more than a viewing guide to engage students. #sschat

[Andrew Jolly @j_bird44]

@JourneysinFilm @ABorders_ A thematic approach I’ve toyed with is how sports can be a catalyst for change...from Muhammad Ali to Colin Kaepernick, each playing a different role.

[Andrew Jolly @j_bird44]

@jedikermit Music is cool, 1960s era I show Across the Universe almost as a way to introduce the protests of the time.

[Andrew Jolly @j_bird44]

A3. I would like to, but have not...yet! Our Eng Dept reads Night around the same time we hit the Holocaust in WH. It would be great to use each skill set #sschat

[Andrew Jolly @j_bird44]

@Grappling_Coach @JourneysinFilm That is a scene that will stick with you for sure.

A2. The visuals can be more than students expect, especially from a “history movie”. But stories adapted from the page make them come to life. #sschat

[Andrew Jolly @j_bird44]

Right? But I do view all ten episodes of Bamd of Brothers as well as its companion, The Pacific. But to be fair we go deep into inquiry about why we fight...more of the soldiers perspective. Students have much to say in discussions.

[Andrew Jolly @j_bird44]

A1. I probably use film too much in the classroom. 😏 Modern World History classes are full of great flicks to choose from also. Swing Kids is a favorite as well as Suffragettes. #sschat
