Nearly 1 in 5 of our nation’s Veterans are Catholic. And while atheists, humanists, and nearly 100 other belief systems can choose their symbol on a VA cemetery headstone, Catholics still cannot choose a crucifix as their emblem of belief.

That is why I am advocating that the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs add the crucifix as an eligible emblem at our national cemeteries. Their faith deserves to be represented, and I will keep fighting until it is.

April and May in high school are basically babysitting months.

April is mostly for EOC test review. Once testing is done, everyone is just counting down to summer.

Imagine if they had something purposeful to do, like a paid internship or a real-world project that could actually earn them money and teach life skills.

Florida became a magnet for new residents over the past few years. Overdeveloping and an open door policy has consequences in our elections. We saw this yesterday.

I'm going to say something very controversial that will get push back. If we vote to end property taxes, the magnet will grow in intensity and draw millions more to my state.

We should really be considering adding a legacy clause to ending property taxes that only extends to Residents who have been here for 20 years and with Florida being their primary residence.

We obviously need relief, but we need to consider the consequences and talk about real long-term solutions, not just quick fixes.

The MOST important foundational skill to teach in school is READING. Without it nothing else matters.

How many administrators can articulate how the brain learns to read? In my experience, very, very few. This is a HUGE reason why literacy rates keep falling.

Leaders MUST understand the neuroscience behind how the brain reads because only then can they implement school wide systems that actually teach kids how to read!!!!

My fourth grade curriculum in my Florida district has ZERO novels. Not one. We have benchmark which has “magazines” with 3 page “excerpts” from novels. It’s slop. Everyone hates it.

I still insist on teaching novels and the wild thing is Florida DOE has EXCEPTIONAL book lists recommended by grade level. I simply design my entire curriculum around those books. No YA slop. Classic children’s literature.
