Sam and I are shocked and saddened by what the board did today.
Let us first say thank you to all the incredible people who we have worked with at OpenAI, our customers, our investors, and all of those who have been reaching out.
We too are still trying to figure out exactly what happened. Here is what we know:
- Last night, Sam got a text from Ilya asking to talk at noon Friday. Sam joined a Google Meet and the whole board, except Greg, was there. Ilya told Sam he was being fired and that the news was going out very soon.
- At 12:19pm, Greg got a text from Ilya asking for a quick call. At 12:23pm, Ilya sent a Google Meet link. Greg was told that he was being removed from the board (but was vital to the company and would retain his role) and that Sam had been fired. Around the same time, OpenAI published a blog post.
- As far as we know, the management team was made aware of this shortly after, other than Mira who found out the night prior.
The outpouring of support has been really nice; thank you, but please don’t spend any time being concerned. We will be fine. Greater things coming soon.
Quite astonishing how bad the customer service experience is when calling @jetblue
Twice this week it’s taken over 1.5 hours to simply move my family to the very same flight a few days later.
Calling most airlines is frustrating, this is by far the worst i’ve very experienced.
ha! now @jetblue is proposing my 18 month old baby sit on her own because they can’t find two seats together!!
“would she be ok in a middle seat behind your middle seat?” she’s not even 2 years old!
Unbelievably bad customer service @britishairways - no one is answering the phones. Online baggage payment portal takes your money but doesn’t give you the bag allowance. 70+ person cue to talk on live chat - #Terrible
@British_Airways charges your credit card online for additional baggage but doesn’t acknowledge the purchase of baggage. Happened x 2 on two seperate bookings. #terrible#CustomerService
@British_Airways absolutely terrible customer service. Can’t get through to anyone online. Try to purchase additional bags, the site takes your money but doesn’t acknowledge the purchase. The chat bot won’t connect to a live agent. disaster on every front- #fail#CustomerService
@AceMoghimi@SeanODowd15 Couldn’t agree more, that’s why when hiring I advocate for going deeper in an effort to clarify a real alignment on values not a surface level culture fit.
@stekenwright @SeanODowd15 When a company sets up what is a culture fit to them most of the time it’s really “what we believe makes a great worker” not what makes a great person. To have a real alignment of values your looking at the person and their personal values - the way they live their life.
@AceMoghimi@SeanODowd15 In my experience company’s talking about culture fit are referring to the culture their business promotes as important. “Hustle” “always on” “self starter” those aren’t genuine values. Does corporate culture fit really value empathy or real honesty? In my experience it does not
