Gold & real yields - 'things you think are so that ain't'
Many OPs currently putting USD gold bear case due to
- rising real yields
- USD
This misunderstands gold as an asset class vs bonds, stocks, GDP and history

@NickTimiraos Dot plot and qtrly reporting both stifle true mkt discovery and reduce policy effectiveness in the respective areas
When mkt gets a wider range of possibilities actual rate moves have far more real world effect
A sense of some mystery is actually a good idea re fomc decisions
@DavidBassanese Simply corrupt to use govt cpi as an adjustment basis
As we saw from US past many yrs as they keep refining cpi measure in order to suit political messaging preferences of the time
The temptation will inevitably lead to diluted cpi measures being used
@mageeclegg Ive long remarked the greatest US asset is being almost hallucinogenically egocentric
The Brit culture of faux modesty and understatement totally bypassed the US
That killer cheerleader factor is a major plus in capital markets
@MilkRoadMacro Its peak humanity to take an inherently obvious feature of a 2 feature 'complexity' - and act like saying it exists is an insight
This is exceprionalism
@sulla_henry@RPMComo@ttmygh@SantiagoAuFund@CultishCreative@LukeGromen@DoombergT Geo political deals arent like poker bc a winning hand tends to increase future win % and loser can also get worse losing %
Though the silver lining here may be loosening US support for Israel, leadung Iarael to be more willing to negotiate in good faith
@pmarca Psyche of the investors is a big part of it. US investors tend to be risk attackers. Uk and Aus are defensive.
Australian banks for example generally wont lend to mines and struggle with Ag. 2 areas of most natural expertise.
@TimurNegru Id imagine most Americans feel like they can so their bit to hose down the Trump effect on views of the US
Always been a traveller welcoming ppl i found
@Michael86030712@Oliver_MSA@FischerKing64 Thats a v interesting point
Im not sure its a nightmare
But i do agree that more attention should be paid to the 'verites'
That said... ppl bloviate about point in time mkt cap
Thats not real net worth
@Blake_Allen13 When i 1st visited US, the big impression was of the massive gulf between poor and normal ppl. Id never seen so many homeless
And the much higher level of crime risk
Otherwise NY felt like Sydney
@SustainableDanG@tobyeggleston@JosieMcskimming If Australia decides it wants to move away from a market based economic society, to a social democracy etc then thats a different matter
But that needs a referendum bc its such a fundamental departure from our existing way of life
@SustainableDanG@tobyeggleston@JosieMcskimming Australia has a private/public split that was lauded globally
Ofc 'takers' will never get enough bc thats inherent to relying on other people's generousity
And such ppl do not understand taking high risk only to have govt take half
Its an absurd ask
