@akarppi21st Does the road to the American dream require that the Mol. let go of Sam who might be too "heavy to carry" (106)? #21Lit

[Jack H. @jackh21st]

@akarppi21st I think the broken promise parallels Joe's challenge of leaving Prague and those he loves for the chance of freedom #21Lit

@RF21CL @cscott21st It helps that she is similar to us. Young, intellectually curious, etc. I like her the most so far as well #21Lit

"I am no longer friendless in this floating farmyard" (23). Adam seems to cling to companionship in whatever way he can #21Lit

[Jack H. @jackh21st]

@21stchristian agreed. Adam also goes on to assume that he and Henry have the same feelings/thoughts on almost all occasions #21Lit

"Writers do not write what they want, they write what they can" -Smith. Interesting insight into how she went about writing OB #21Lit

[Jack H. @jackh21st]

The writing is almost passive; I feel as though we (as readers) are completely blinded to something by Miss Lewis' obsession with J. #21Lit

[Jack H. @jackh21st]

@mwittig21st to me, that sentence seemed like a skewed view coming from Miss L. In other words, what do the kids really think of J? #21Lit

[Jack H. @jackh21st]

@vda_202 @akarppi21st @21OChris @d_mdaly it is so hard for us not to judge them because of how human both we and the characters are #21Lit

[Jack H. @jackh21st]

.@elgobbo5 @jl21lit still unable to control his urges, and still unable to make his emotions and urges analytical #21Lit

[Jack H. @jackh21st]

.@21stchristian I think "brother" is anyone Levi views as being "street." Being African American is a big part, but not all of it #21Lit

[Jack H. @jackh21st]

.@jl21lit @akarppi21st also similarly: at what cost does it take to gain either type of knowledge? #21Lit

[Jack H. @jackh21st]

In case anyone did not get this: #21Lit

[Jack H. @jackh21st]

@akarppi21st I think Smith also uses Jerome and Levi to show how part of who we are may be out of our control #21Lit

[Jack H. @jackh21st]

@cscott21st @elgobbo5 @ZPB_2016 and every time they began to recognize the truth, Saunders cut off their thoughts #21Lit

Interesting idea to look out for: Decay (physical, familial, psychological) and how it impacts our narrator's desire for control #21Lit

[Jack H. @jackh21st]

@RF21CL maybe fiction and interpretation can be one in the same in this case #21Lit
