"To win a crowd is no art; for that only untruth is needed, nonsense, and a little knowledge of human passions. But no witness to the truth dares to get involved with the crowd."
Soren Kierkegaard
I filmed this pig staring at me he arrived at a slaughterhouse.
His eyes. The fear. The terror. 💔
RT to give him a voice. Don't let his death be in vain.
There's a fanatical obsession with "correctionism" today.
Everything has to be "not like you thought it would be", "actually different", "way less cool than you thought as a kid"
I'm not advocating naiveté, but this has gone way past an interest in truth and become its own fixation.
There seems to be a strong desire to "debunk", to "get real". Nothing can be cool, good, fascinating, uplifting... it has to be dragged down into the mud. Very disinspiring.
You see this particular sort of brain worms on Reddit a lot, but there are many people on here who partake as well. It's more of a left-wing trait, but conservatives do it too. Just a universal sort of mental contagion.
It's especially insidious when it's directed at kids or teenagers finding what they want to do. The internet encourages over-research, an excessive sort of knowledge about any and all eventualities.
Take an objectively cool career path as an example: a fighter pilot. If you dig hard into what life is like in that career, all you'll see is complaints: ackshually you don't fly that much, ackshually there's a lot of paperwork, ackshually... so on and so forth.
That's a blatant infohazard - when reinforced over and over, the obvious conclusion is that everything "ackshually" sucks "in the real world". Might as well do nothing, aspire to nothing.
At the same time, it creates a mental pattern of "this thing might seem cool, but when I learn more about it I'll learn that it actually isn't." All that mindset encourages is more of the learning part, and a complete aversion to actually doing.
Decision paralysis.
This happens with everything - careers, living in a particular city, relationships, lifestyle choices. The pattern is "thinking things are good is unenlightened", "actually everything is awful."
Very dangerous way of thinking. Better to maintain a degree of ignorance, or at least a preference for learning by doing - for your own good. If you don't, you'll never pursue anything new.
