What a beautiful day!

I hear it is Mzee @Rutaremara Sen Tito’s 80th Birthday! “Mzee” is one of the most instrumental, most influential thought leaders of the last 60years of Rwanda’s post-colonial revolutionary destiny. It is nearly impossible to hear a story of Rwandan refugees without the name of “the Pan-African Marxist Philosopher” - as our enemies would refer to him.

Member of ANC, of NRM, Co-founder of RANU and later of RPF, its leader between 1987 and 1993, Chairman of the post-genocide Constitutional reform, first Ombudsman, MP, Senator and so on, Mzee is best known for his little regard for earthly riches, ever faithful to his principles. He graduated from a prestigious school in France, yet decided to return to refugee camps in Uganda to live in poverty and teach with no salary the next generation of Rwandan leaders.

Unlike other African “intellectuals”, he mastered colonial languages but never shown any interest in speaking them…

He is among the architects and guardians of the Rwandan Unity, the Rwandan vision and the discipline to stay the course; most notably, he inspired Fundamental Principle 10(6) in our constitution: “A Constant quest for solutions, through dialogue and consensus…” which not only has characterized him, but has now also shaped our political culture since 1994!

If there is a man that I am faithful that he has attained the rare stage of Rwandan spirituality: “Umutina Mana”, it is Citzen Rutaremara! and I cannot believe the privilege that we all have to be with him everyday and to get to jubilate him today! He deserves all the flowers from all the children of Rwanda.
