One year ago, a devastating earthquake tore through central Myanmar, killing thousands and leaving countless families without homes, in a country already scarred by years of armed conflict.
Today, signs of recovery are visible. Homes are being rebuilt. Farms are running again. But the road ahead remains long for communities carrying the weight of both disaster and ongoing conflict.
Over the past year, together with the Myanmar Red Cross Society, the ICRC teams have reached more than 300,000 people with shelter, clean water, healthcare, and essential supplies, supported by nearly 1,200 first responders on the ground from day one.

The ICRC's Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific, @SaviozR , accompanied by the ICRC Head of Regional Delegation in the Pacific @MRockICRC and Regional Legal Adviser Hannah Crothers, paid a courtesy visit to Fiji’s Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Lenora Qereqeretabua at the @Fiji_MFAET , in Suva, Fiji, yesterday.
The visit provided an opportunity to share an update on the #GlobalIHLInitiative.
Launched in 2024 by the @ICRC and six co-founding states, the Initiative aims to bolster political commitment to IHL, urging compliance to protect civilians and preserve humanity in conflict.
With conflicts growing in number, duration, and complexity, the ICRC is calling for renewed commitment to international humanitarian law (IHL).
@ICRC's Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific, @SaviozR is here in Suva, Fiji, and will be visiting New Zealand and Australia to reinforce this message.
10 years ago, Tropical Cyclone Winston made history as the Southern Hemisphere’s strongest storm, claiming 44 lives in Fiji and leaving a trail of destruction across the country.
In the aftermath, the @FijiRedCross (FRCS) together with support from the @ICRC stepped in to reconnect families torn apart by the chaos.
A decade later, the FRCS Restoring Family Links (RFL) service continues to offer a lifeline for loved ones to reconnect during crisis.
