I don’t want to "download the app" to pay for parking. I don’t want to "create an account" to see a menu. I don’t want to "provide feedback" on a 30-second interaction. I just want to exist in the physical world without a digital leash.
Caitlin Clark scored 45 points and had 10 assists tonight, something never done in the history of the WNBA. Not bad for the 11th best guard in the league.
Lets keep in mind Caitlin didnt ask for this She’s never said she was the face of the league. She’s always showed respect for those who came before her. She could squash this league like a bug if she started her own league. When she was asked to do NBA 3pt contest she said she wanted to do WNBA one 1st. She has fought for players salaries. But she is by far the most popular player in the league by every metric possible. Was it disrespectful to past tennis players when Serena and Venus instantly became faces of women’s tennis or Tiger with golf? The market dictates who the face of the league is and it’s clearly Caitlin. This argument makes zero sense and is just steeped in jealousy and stupidity
A two-part Monday morning question for you:
Where am I rushing right now when I should be moving deliberately?
Where am I dragging my feet right now when I should be moving fast?
Underrated life advice: Become easier to impress. Be amazed by a beautiful sunrise. A great conversation. A good cup of coffee. A long walk. A laugh with friends. The people who find joy in small things end up finding joy in a lot more things.
Underrated life advice: Bet on yourself more often. Apply for the job. Start the business. Send the message. Take the trip. Ask the girl. You have to trust yourself enough to take the first step without knowing exactly where the path leads.
One of the best pieces of advice I ever got: If you want a calmer life, you need to address small problems while they’re still small. The cost of dealing with an issue rarely gets cheaper with time. Procrastination turns uncomfortable things into unavoidable things.
What odds could you have gotten in 2012 on President Donald Trump welcomes the national champion Indiana Hoosiers football team to the White House? 500k to 1, 1 million to 1?
Choose your words carefully. The way you talk about your life shapes how you experience it. Call everything stressful, & it'll feel that way. Over time, the way you speak becomes the way you think. The way you think becomes the way you act. And the way you act becomes your life.
Underrated life advice: Give yourself credit. You’re doing better than you think. You’ve made it through things that once felt impossible. You’ve grown in ways you once prayed for. You've accomplished goals others said you never would. Take a moment to soak it in.
I thought about doing this without any jokes, something I've never done here in 23 years, to impress upon people how much different I feel this issue is from any I have ever covered.
Resolving boredom through our incessant attention to our devices has, according to New York Times bestselling author @arthurbrooks, also brought an end to our willingness to let our minds wander – inhibiting abstract thinking and making us vulnerable to anxiety and depression.
He talks about his new book, "The Meaning of Your Life: Finding Purpose in an Age of Emptiness," and why constant distraction gets in the way of our ability to be fully alive.
Unexpected forms of generosity:
-Being early can be a form of generosity. You wait, so they don't have to.
-Leaving something unsaid can be a form of generosity. You don't always need the last word.
-Delivering your work on time can be a form of generosity. You make life easier for everyone downstream.
-Not taking things personally can be a form of generosity. You give people the space to say things imperfectly.
A pattern I've caught in myself more than once: the advice I give most passionately is almost always the advice I most need to take. Pay attention to what you tell others. It's usually a direct message from the part of you that's been trying to get your own attention.
You need to surround yourself with people who have high ambition and people who are content. High ambition people light a fire under your ass encouraging you to reach your full potential. People who are content will show you how to have enough in a world that always wants more.
