@AdamAbebe@RNesrudin@awushwish It's about time leaders in Africa (and around the world) listen to voices of peace and humanity like Martin Luther King Jr
"The richer we have become materially, the poorer we have become morally and spiritually...we have not learned the simple art of living together as brothers"
Good grief!! 😡
How are schools in the LA area determining whether it's safe to re-open after the fires?
- "Sniff test" (yes, that is a direct quote)
- presence of visible soot and ash
... and, wait for it ... my favorite (s/)
- access to water for handwashing🤦♀️

While this is the right recommendation, the actual logistics of getting providers to order send-out bird flu subtyping & prior auth for it will make this happen far less than it should be. #H5N1

This is such a fun stat!
San Diego volunteers donated 235,000 cfm to fire victims.
Combine that with the 500 CR boxes built in LA, that’s another 180,500 cfm
GRAND TOTAL: 415,500 cfm from the @CRFoundationUS 🎉🎉🎉

BREAKING NEWS.
These earthquakes in Ethiopia keep getting bigger.
Unless someone else claims otherwise, I was the only person who warned one hour before the first magnitude 5 in this series. Since this morning, they started getting larger.
First went up to 5.2, then 5.5, now 5.8.
#Earthquake confirmed by seismic data.⚠Preliminary info: M5.2 || 76 km SE of Debre Birhan (#Ethiopia) || 9 min ago (local time 23:05:46). Follow the thread for the updates👇

Just woke up from the earthquake. Very unsettling, especially when you live in a high-rise building in #AddisAbaba . You start wondering about the structural stability of buildings around and how prepared the city is for such moments.
#Ethiopia: Since late September 2024, Ethiopia has experienced increased seismic activity, particularly near the #Fentale volcano in the Main Ethiopian Rift Valley region. Over the past few days, multiple earthquakes have been recorded with magnitudes ranging from 4.4 to 5.1. The most significant event was a magnitude 5.1 earthquake on 29 December, 2024, located approximately 42 km north of #Awash.
Elias Lewi (PhD), Director of Geophysics and Space Science at Addis Ababa University (#AAU), noted in an interview with state media that the region has experienced recurrent seismic activity over the past week. He attributed these events to movements within basaltic rock formations, suggesting that such tectonic processes are likely to persist.
Dr. Elias further explained that tectonic activity in the area, particularly movements within basaltic rock formations, continues to drive these recurring earthquakes. He emphasized that these geological processes are likely to sustain the frequency of seismic events in the region.
