@RealOtisCrune @ToughSf That was one of the points I initially wondered about. Joules is important if joules are very closely priced. First thing I found suggested closer to a 2x cost of jet fuel vs methane. Cost per flight is a weird measure here to compare though.

@xwanyex Land value should theoretically be what the land sells for as an empty lot. Some things like roads and utility access does improve the value of the land as well, but most improvements don't.

@xwanyex Hm, I'm not sure how true this is in general. I think only some improvements would actually effect general land value. Like, I could put $20,000 into, say, very fancy bathroom upgrades, that probably improves the value of my house, it probably doesn't improve my land value.

@wil_da_beast630 This comes to the very Jordan Petronian point that the Nazis show how much you can be changed. Numbers suggest plenty of Japanese and Russian soldiers raped who probably didn't rape before or since. I'd like to think I wouldn't, but know enough history to not be fully sure.

@pegobry_en We also need to keep in mind subsidiarity: different things are optimally handled at different scale: France the Nation would be tyranical if it handled some village stuff out of Paris. Likewise, there may be some things a EU scale gov is good for. Ideal is layers of optimal gov.

@pegobry_en Sargon also made the very good point that civil war and crime rate aren't actually that closely related. I'm sure all those arrested for facebook posts don't add to violent crime stats, but that's the element that makes the stabbings oppressive, rather than tragic.

@JessicaBones10 @policytensor The main point for pushing some troops forward is to force the US to place itself in a more vulnerable position, say near deployed aircraft where other FPV/Shaheeds have a better chance to hit, or force the US to withdraw and a skeleton force occupies.

@JessicaBones10 @policytensor This is probably the initial stage. FPV raids, either the US deploys mass force closer in field, where they may be more venerable to drones, or the US pulls back and Iran takes the bases sort of without a fight.

@MartinSkold2 And with drones, if the US doesn't have mass artillery and tanks to counter attack these kinds of things, a couple of guys on trucks with drones getting in 10-20 km could make the US position untenable. Heaven forbid within 2-5 km with drones.

@MartinSkold2 Yeah, if the Iranians do preserve the ability to hit airfields, then concentrating forces close enough to do close air support is much less non-trivial than other wars. Its something like 50-80 km to cross Iraq. If Iraq doesn't contest, raids can cross that quickly.

@ulgulanoth @jmgwritten Plus, obviously DnD is something like this is necessary for the dungioning. Star Wars also notably starts post the golden age of the Republic, in the less civilized age of the Empire. There definitely is something for setting things post golden age, than in it.

@ulgulanoth @jmgwritten Amusingly, this was sort of how the Iliad and Odyssey were also set up: I recall there's an extended part of the Iliad where they're post the golden age of gods and monsters, like Hercules and Jason. Lord of the Rings is also sort of post collapse.

@badguy974 @xwanyex I think its going to be more like the collapse of the USSR: more dramatic than currently imagined, much less dramatic than worse case predicted: USSR had old age pensions, Russia still has old age pension: it never went away, but did radically change and become less generous.

@yishan Hm, this seems like the kind of thing its hard to actually measure how we balance off. I get the impression were ahead in some manner, but I'm also completely disconnected from the East Asian market, so I have no idea how big it actually is. What specifically would we measure?
