The average YT person today who lives in a Repub county (disproportionately YT) have a 15% lower life expectancy than one who lives in a Dem county (more diverse).

Homicide rate was higher back then, more urban decay to the city's buildings/venues, and the sky was choked w/smog. 80s were culturally great tho/more positive vibes- it was before the emergence of Fox News and right wing culture wars.

LA and NY have lower violent crime than most big cities. But yeah, many red states like AL have endless problems including being the most federally dependent.

There are pluses/minuses to big cities, like Chicago's huge economy. Red states/counties are less productive & lower life expectancy

Other states have big cities with much higher violent crime rates and the rural areas resemble the movie Deliverance.

Part of the narrative is the stereotype that they defer to Whites. Whites feel increasingly threatened as they stand up for themselves & their numbers grow. Especially post covid.
