The results from our DEVICE trial are out in the @NEJM . In this RCT, direct laryngoscopy was inferior to video laryngoscopy for first-pass success.
In fact, it was so inferior that we had to stop the trial early after DSMB review due to the clear benefit of VL.
This is the ๐จ nail in the โฐ๏ธ for DL. While it's an important skill, VL should be the standard when it's available. If it's not available, we need to make it available.

Kudos to Gelje Sherpa for his heroic act! When faced with a choice between personal glory and a fellow climber's safety, he unhesitatingly rescued the Malaysian climber from the treacherous height of #Everest near Balcony (~8300 m). His act of courage shines as bright as the Himalayan sun.

Great talk by @MatthewHumar at #critcare23. He discusses this paper from @SydneyHEMS:

Leverage adult skills and experience with paeds.
For children > 1yr: use an adult VL for intubation - itโs the device youโre used to.
๐ The profession has spoken and we have listened. We are pleased to announce that Tim Andrews (@TimAndroos) has accepted the role as our first Paramedic Academic Clinician. This role is just the start of career options discussed in the paper below:

I canโt even begin to imagine how my friends, colleagues and members of the paramedicine family in NSW are feeling today. A simply incomprehensible event.
